Nothing can be more stressful than having to quickly get the information that you have to get somewhere quickly, and the only choice is to fly. You may not have thought about an emergency trip and the cost of flying quickly just isn’t in the budget.
How do you fly in cheap in a hurry? It’s not easy, and you need patience, but with a few solid tips you can get your flight as soon as possible, and where you’re going as soon as possible.
First, you’ve probably already heard of major discount airlines such as Expedia, Cheaptickets, and Southwest Airlines. From what I’ve experienced, the flights are pretty much the same. If you have to leave the next day, I recommend Priceline.com. Once my brother called to tell me that I had to fly for at least two days to help take care of my elderly mother a> they had Much to my surprise, I found a flight for about the same price as two weeks. I was the only catch, I didn’t know the departure or return times of the day until after I bought tickets online. But thankfully I had a kind husband who was able to drive me to Hartford Airport before 6 AM for a 7 AM flight. On the way back, I didn’t have the heart to ask my relatives to pick me up at 3 AM instead of the 6 AM flight back from Dallas/Ft. The price of the airports. But I took a taxi service outside of Granbury, Texas to get to the airport on time.
If you have the luxury of getting your tickets at least two weeks in advance, then traditional fares like Expedia, Cheaptickets and Southwest Airlines work great. Just make sure to wait no less than two weeks for prices to go up after that. However, you should know a few tips before you look for the best deal.
* It is usually cheaper to fly on Saturday and dry. The most expensive travel days are, of course, the busiest, which are Friday and Sunday. Days in the middle of the week (Monday, though Thursday) are also cheaper, although the best day to travel remains Saturday. Separate them on different days, if possible. For example, see if you can leave one day earlier or later than planned.
* Check out other players. It may be worth it if you drive further than your local airport. If you live near a smaller city, chances are it’s more expensive to fly. For example, when my mother lived in Maggie-valley North Carolina, it was cheaper to fly to Charlotte, than Asheville, as Charlotte was a major airport. > you save money on the flight.
*When you check flights on your computer, be sure to delete your cookie every time you ask again. If you don’t clear the cookie, you’ll see a big jump in price only minutes later. To delete your cookies, go to “tools” and select “options”, and then “delete cookie”. A friend, wise in the ways of the Internet, shared this little secret with me last year after I complained about how shocked I was that the price of a ticket had jumped by a hundred dollars in just five minutes. On the other hand, if you have two computers in your home, only alternate computers. The name of the your gaming computer is failing cookie.
*Want to have more than one layover. We all know that direct flights are more expensive. Well, getting with a couple of layovers is also cheap. Two years ago, I saved quite a bit by flying back home with a couple of tricks before I got home. flew to Ft. Worth, Houston, Detroit, Michigan, and finally to Hartford, Connecticut. I could travel all day but at least I could offer my ticket home.
*Check the airline’s website (rather than the economy one), as it sometimes has unpublished deals.
*Be aware that if you are attending the funeral of a parent or relative, you will usually get a discount if you provide proof of death later.
With these tips and others, I hope you can find a good and cheap flight wherever you are without light or luck.
