Jabulani is as close to perfection as any manufacturer can come to creating the perfect soccer ball. Adidas first made this news when they introduced the Telstar soccer ball in 1970. This ball is an innovative thing because it has managed to take the normal 32 boards to get a normal soccer ball and uses only 12 boards. They were able to do this by criminally tying the tables. This results in the elimination of seams and the introduction of exterior panels that are 3-D-like and not flat like they used to be.
Adidas worked to achieve the same revolutionary results that they achieved with Telstar. Jabulani did this by using only eight boards instead of the twelve boards that the company used. When broken down, this provided almost 70% more surface area for the heels due to fewer visible seams. The larger surface area will result in a moving soccer ball that is faster, smoother, and more accurate than before. This results in perhaps more goals scored and soccer players in the world’s best soccer ball than ever used.
An old soccer ball would also be folded in such a pattern. This made it difficult for the goalkeepers to correctly guess which ball was going to the goal. Since lighter aerodynamics have been created with the elimination of even more panels, the Jabulani will be more stable. Adidas also used what they call aero-stripes. These are long grooves in the boards that allow the soccer ball to be turned into a more aerodynamic shape. Goal keepers will now be able to better guess the direction of the ball, seeing the fair advantage that soccer kickers will now be able to kick even more accurately.
Adidas has created something truly phenomenal here. The Jabulani offers a wider kicking surface, is more aerodynamically efficient, has built-in grooves to make kicking easier, and moves faster than the version that was used four decades ago.
