Frozen pies can be a quick and delicious meal or snack, often prepared in the oven or in the microwave. When it comes to pot pie you need to have a good piece. The crust of the pot pie serves as both a maker and a dip. I prepared both Convivium and Swanson frozen cakes in both microwave and oven and here are the results.
Cookie Winner: Banquet
I’ve always come to expect that soft crust from a frozen pie pan. Coming in soft, Proind delivers the Swanson cake every time. Unfortunately, a soft crust is not a desirable crust when it comes to pie crusts. Until fresh food was offered, the pot was not edible. But Convivium has changed and now offers Proinable pot pies. The best part is that a piece of microwaved party pie has a crunch to it, unlike Swanson’s pot pies. My winner for best crust therefore goes to Banquet’s frozen pot pie.
Victor’s Cake Oven: The Feast
The crust is just like when, the Feast is the clear winner when it comes to the crust baked in the oven. Cake‘s frozen party pie cooks more evenly than Swanson’s frozen pot pie cooks more evenly. While both crusts are nicely browned on the edges, Swanson’s makes a crust that’s almost browned while the center of the crust is cooked right. The feast, on the other hand, produces a milder brown outer crust that challenges it as a bone-in winner.
Bulk filling: Swanson
When it comes to filling the top spot, Swanson beats Banquet by a mile. Swanson found a concrete pot pie with sauce and filling more than a party brand, not just by a bit, by quite a bit. I found myself disappointed when I cracked a piece of the party pot pie and found that the middle was almost dry from the lack of ample sauce and the vegetable and meat filling. Swanson, however, seems to provide a meal with plenty of filling to enjoy, making it a winner of the challenge.
Flavor filling: Swanson
When it comes to flavors between meals and Swanson’s frozen pies, Swanson’s will deliver every time. at least party pies I found the filling to be bland in taste, with Swanson. the filling is more flavorful and delicious. My only complaint when it comes to the filling for Swanson’s pot pies is that the chunks of beef are often chewy and tough. Another top prize is the full flavor of Swanson’s frozen pot pies.
Budget Friendly: Reception
Both Banquet and Swanson frozen pies can often be found for under a dollar, depending on the location and store. However, I have found that party pies are often cheaper than Swanson’s Ice Cream Pie. For example, he recently bought several boxes of each brand of frozen pies. Swanson’s pot pies are on sale for 80 cents. Party pot pies? They were for sale for only 60 cents. Keep in mind, however, that a cheaper price may be associated with a lower amount of filling, and therefore two frozen pies may be included in the price. If you’re only interested in spending less money, regardless of the size of the filling, then buy a brand of party clay pie and make a budget-friendly pot pie challenge winner.
Overall, which is better?
If I were to pick a top winner, I’d pick Swanson’s pies. While the crust is not suitable for microwaving the taste of the filling and the amount of filling are more impressive to me and make this brand of pot pie a clear winner. If you decide to purchase Swanson’s pot pies, I recommend that you bake them in the oven. You can also try putting some foil around the edges of the crust to keep it from sticking up. If you are looking for the only snack that can be microwaved then party pies are a great value choice.
