I love selling my stuff on Ebay, so I figured I should give Half.com a try. I had quite a few books that I hadn’t bought on Ebay, so I’m trying them out. Overall, I am very disappointed and will probably just stick with Ebay from now on. My Ebay experience has been great 99% of the time, but I wasn’t thrilled with Half.com at all.
Problem #1: Shipping Amounts Often Insufficient
Unlike Ebay, where you control what the buyer charges for shipping, on Half.com the amount of shipping is out of your control. When I sell chairs on Ebay, I charge very attractive shipping prices. I don’t include my time in shipping charges so basically the buyer is paying the shipping required. Sometimes I would include the price of the box (if I bought it to ship it to myself), but sometimes I wouldn’t (if I already had the box). At Half.com, I figured out the price of the box, the packaging materials, and the actual shipping should be estimated. I was very disappointed. I had a few textbooks for sale that they didn’t sell on Ebay. One text is not only the book itself, but the file. Half.com doesn’t seem to take the art of files into account. Not only do I have to pay for the box and shipping materials, but also the shipping cost was removed by five dollars. ! What if I had a shipping card? It would have been free to send that book. You could actually lose money by making books for less money. I understand that some buyers have been scammed on Ebay because the shipping rates are sometimes high. But buyers have a choice. If you don’t want to pay $80 for shipping on a 99 cent guitar, then don’t buy from that seller. Half.com does not give sellers the opportunity to refund for insufficient shipping amounts.
Problem #2: Special Taxes for Sellers
While I understand that Half.com is not providing a free service, I think an extra 15% of the book price for a fee is completely insane . You won’t always be charged 15%, but Half.com definitely has higher fees than Ebay. A lot of sellers complain about Ebay fees, but I don’t think their fees are all bad. Ebay fees will look nothing like the fees you see on Half.com. Until you need a high school, you are not pregnant. But the Ebay listing fee is often only 20 cents, so it’s not a huge loss if your item doesn’t sell. .
Problem #3: It takes a long time to sell
Ebay gives you the option of having an auction for 7 days or adding or subtracting a few days if you want. On Half.com, your item sells when it sells. For most of my items, I made sure to list them at lower prices than others that were currently available. If your item isn’t offered for the lowest price, you’ll probably end up waiting until all the cheaper items sell out before you even have a chance to get yours. However, if you overestimate your price, you won’t have the ability to make the price order go up. On Half.com it’s not an order, so you’re out of luck if you score something at a lower price. Even with low to reasonable prices, you will still have a lot of books that will take forever to sell. You don’t know what to sell. Once in the home you will come to the email you made the sale. What I like about Ebay is that I can schedule my sales around my life. At Half.com, I don’t have that luxury. If someone buys a book from me and I’m in finals week, I’ll still ship it out. Of course, if you really leave or think that someone can finally buy something in time when you really are. busy, you can say you are on holiday. That still doesn’t work for him because he’ll probably end up waiting to sell quite a bit of stuff. This is especially bad if you are disorganized and can’t find the book you ordered 3 months ago when it finally sells and you need to buy it. If you want to sell something fast, go with Ebay instead.
Problem #4: No PayPal on Half.com
It’s hard to remember what Ebay was like before using PayPal. I admit I didn’t like PayPal at first, but now I love being able to use it for all my direct deposit. I think thank you that it is not a more outdated solution. Postall, at least they don’t send a check and make me physically to the bank.
Problem #5: Payment received forever
Let’s say you are a college student and you sell your handouts to get some money. to be delivered at your next appointment. When sell your textbook, you probably want to get that money back quickly. But it took me a month to get paid. That way, you’ll be able to afford the shipping costs (not that you’ll be completely satisfied anyway) and you’ll have to be patient about receiving your payment. It just doesn’t work for me. On Ebay, I sell the item and then get paid. After I paid, I immediately ship the item. On Half.com, I sell the item and then quickly ship it out. Then I wait forever to be paid for that item. I think the whole Ebay method is better for me.
Half.com just really impressed me as a seller. I was disappointed when you could list the items at no price, but I quickly turned away from this site. When I sell something, I usually sell it because I need the money now. I don’t want the upfront costs involved when I’m selling items. When it comes to shipping, I really like the idea of ships being fully satisfied. I don’t want to end up paying high fees for a large part of my own ships too. If you think about selling on Half.com, what you love on Ebay, consider these points. Ebay is a much better selling environment in my opinion.
