Andy Roddick Sucks

Andy Roddick sucks.

His appearance (if you can even call it that, it was more like a cameo) at this year’s French Open, the first major event of 2006, was nothing more than despicable. Roddick was playing on a sprained ankle, painfully so. But he could hardly be quiet. That is what one would think and expect in a professional athlete; but not so with Andy Roddick, who sixth was the sixth, little dog of professional men’s tennis.

Two set to none and play in the first game of the third set, Roddick called time out so his trainer could catch up. Look at his ankle (which is why I’m not going to go all out, it was honestly injured a week ago). His coach said there was no danger in continuing the fight, but Roddick waved his hand anyway. A total lack of work for which Andy Roddick should be ashamed of himself.

Before I go any further, I want to emphasize two things. One, and most importantly, I am not an experienced tennis player or a tennis fan for that matter. There are too many sports that I know less about than tennis (maybe it’s like the 11th sport that I know least about myself). Then I look at the French Open which is by far the most brutal of all the major tournaments for American tennis players. I know that American players favoring the killer do not play well on clay (clay slows down their serve and makes it easier to roll). Behold, I know this. Now let’s get back to Andy Roddick.

Even if Andy Roddick didn’t have a shot at winning from the get-go, there’s no reason not to try. I’d rather have seen him just stay at home and say “you know what guys, I could skip the first or second round, but this is. /a> for this one.” Why did he travel to France if he injured his ankle and was not going to try? What kind of pussy movement is that?

But let’s look at the bigger picture of Andy Roddick. The majors turned, he won no race with a triumph at the US Open in 2003 as a 21 years born. 24 He will soon turn and come dangerously close to the first tennis without making much progress. When Roddick won the 2003 Open he was hailed as the next great American tennis pro; and America has quite a history of great tennis players. Connors, McEnroe, Sampras, Agassi, Roddick; that is how it was supposed to be. And Roddick’s life so far has been very underwhelming.

I don’t know Andy Roddick personally and it feels kind of unusual to attack him like that because he wasn’t paying attention. I tried to play tennis (or took the kid lessons) and it’s a really hard sport to master. I root for Andy Roddick to do well as Americans and, to be honest, I feel like he’s got a lot of raw stuff. It’s based on the fact that people, fans, and writers want so badly to be the next big star.

It would be time for us to understand each other; maybe, Andy Roddick’s not that good. Mandy Moore there are still cells, what have you done with your life?
