Even though I’m an adult and a guy, my absolute favorite movie is still Anne of Green Gables by Sullivan Entertainment. Even 22 years after it was originally released as a four-part miniseries in 1985, Anne of Green Gables still tops my list of all-time favorites. Anne of Green Gables hes famously developed a children’s story, despite the fact that L.M. Montgomery, the original author of books, focused on books for adults and children in the 20th century Despite this reputation, my opinion is that anyone who has even the slightest romanticism or who knows what it means to be a “Cousin Spirit”, as Anna would say, will love this movie and take it to heart.
Anne of Green Gables follows the story of a young orphan named Anne Shirley who is adopted by Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, an older brother and sister living on a red-hair called “Carrots”. The fact that Anna and Gilbert eventually fall in love is thinly veiled and must be known to anyone in Anna’s family. Gables books by L.M. Montgomery.
Other classic scenes include Anne in green, Matthew Cuthbert’s death (tear-jerker) Anne’s shipwreck while he acts a scene from Madame Shalot, and after Gilbert rescues the mouse that drowned in Marilla’s plum, which Anna is too carried away by the fancy to remember to put cheese on it the night before, and the countless scenes all have their own charm.
Part of the charm comes from the writing itself, part comes from the formidable cast of actors and actresses that appear in Anne of Green Gables. Megan Follows provided such a classic Anne Shirley look that I doubt anyone else could have done Anne’s nuances quite like it. Colleen Dewhurst was a wonderful Marilla, who represented a brooding exterior and a gentle and loving interior. And Richard Farnsworth as Matthew Cuthbert is lovable in the movie from the moment we first see his face on screen.
In conclusion, Anne of Green Gables is a classic film adaptation of the classic story, and is suitable for children or anyone with a romantic heart. To understand this film, you must be what Anna would call a kindred spirit, and if you are one then you will know in your heart. I seriously doubt that Anne of Green Gables by Sullivan Entertainment can ever be overtaken in my mind as the greatest film by another film.
