Stone Cold Steve Austin will always be remembered for his incredible in-ring matches against wrestlers like Triple H, The Rock, Bret Hart, The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, but Austin will also be remembered and quoted for numerous catchphrases that he instilled to WWE audiences. Whether he was playing the face or heel Stone Cold Steve Austin got a crowd riled up and provided some of the most memorable quotes that are still being used today.
“Austin 3:16” – It was the catchphrase that started it all. After beating Jake “The Snake” Roberts at the King of the Ring, Austin delivered a post-match interview that insulted Roberts and fully introduced Austin and the WWE Attitude era. The most infamous line from his speech was “Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ass.” Millions of successful t-shirts followed and Austin quickly rose to the top of the WWE roster.
“That’s the Bottom Line Cause Stone Cold Said So!” – Stone Cold Steve Austin pretty much said and did anything he wanted in a WWE ring. If he was challenged or needed to explain himself, one line pretty much said it all. As the catchphrase grew on, Austin would only have to say “That’s the Bottom Line” because screaming fans would often finish the line for him.
“Toughest SOB” – rarely said by Austin himself, Jim ross and other WWE announcers referred to Austin as this enough to become one of his nicknames and popular phrase. Austin proved his toughness by never backing down to a challenge and engaging in rough battles with numerous WWE wrestlers.
“Don’t Trust Anybody” – Part of Austin’s popular character was his independence and unwillingness to trust anybody. This turned into the catchphrase or simply put “DTA.” Even when Austin won multiple tag team championships, he was very untrusting with his partners and quickly severed ties on multiple occasions.
“Gimme a Hell Yea” – Stone Cold Steve Austin loved to interact with the fans and one of his most popular ways to do this was with his “Gimme a Hell Yea” catchphrase. For example, Austin would say “If you want me to beat the crap out of Mr. McMahon, gimme a hell yea!” Echoes of “Hell Yea” would erupt through the stands as Austin gave fans what they wanted.
“What?” – Austin turned this simple word into a catchphrase that audiences used for years after Stone Cold Steve Austin left the WWE. As a heel and a part of the WCW/ECW faction, Austin would interrupt or rudely answer a wrestler with the simple phrase of “What?” Crowds quickly caught on and anytime a wrestler would speak, the crowd would erupt with “What?” after each sentence. Everytime Austin returns, the catchphrase comes with it.
