Super 8 Motel: Salt Lake City, UT

Flight issues left my daughter and I stuck in Utah with no car and no overnight accommodations. (Good thing we took our bags as carry on luggage.) Finally deciding that we should stay for the night and leave first thing in the morning, the hunt for a hotel was on. Luckily as you exit the Salt Lake City, Utah airport, there is a board of information for local hotels. I made a few calls and found the best, cleanest, reasonable place for the cheapest price.

The Super 8 won our business with not only pricing but a free continental breakfast and a free shuttle to and from the airport. (I did not want to pay for a car for less than half of a day.) It was located less than 10 minutes from the airport at 223 North Jimmy Doolittle Road in Salt Lake City.

I called for pricing and it was a $45 per night room rate for $55.61 after tax on a Sunday.

They sent the shuttle for us straight away; we probably waited no more than 15 minutes.

The grounds were neat and very well kept. Plenty of parking was available if you are driving.

Inside the building, lobby and hallways was very modern and clean.

The staff was pleasant but the service was a little bit slow. Mainly, this was due to the training of a new desk clerk, which is completely understandable. Their system also had a small issue but was only an extremely small inconvenience.

We took a non smoking, 2 Queen Bed room. The room was nice enough and suited our overnight need but was, more importantly, clean. (Clean accommodations, my biggest issue in staying away from home.)

The area was nice and seemed safe, which is at the top of the priority list when traveling alone as a female and even more so with a child.

A pool and hot tub were available for guest use. The pool was decently sized and did provide an adequate amount of room for lap swimming. The hot tub was also decent sized but the water should have been hotter.

The immediate area did not really offer anything much to do. There were a couple other hotels and a couple hotel restaurants in the near walking distance.

We took a shuttle, which cost $15, into the downtown area and went to eat dinner, at The Happy Sumo, in The Gateway. It was Sunday and nothing was open too late so we didn’t get to do too much shopping. The shuttle driver was going to be quite a while coming back to pick us up and everything was closed at this point so I called a taxi to bring us back to the hotel and that only cost a few dollars more than the shuttle. (Around $18)

Two computers were available for use in the Business Center, which is the same as the lobby. WiFi is also available for free in the rooms.

A continental breakfast was offered, which was very standard. It included items like oatmeal, juice, coffee, bagels, cream cheese, fruit, etc…

I would absolutely stay here again.

Bottom line: Recommended.
