Bollywood mega-star Shah Rukh Khan has no reason to worry about his new film, “Jab Tak Hai Jaan.” No matter the plot or how terrible the acting, this film will do very well at the box office and maybe break records. “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” will become a huge hit. There is no doubt about it.
Director Yash Chopra’s First Film in Years
The name Yash Chopra is nearly as famous as SRK. In fact, SRK owes much of his success to Chopra because Chopra gave SRK a chance in several of Bollywood’s biggest films. “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” was Chopra’s first film in years. His last was the romantic and controversial hit “Veer-Zaara,” also starring SRK. Fans of Chopra’s directing will flock to the film because they love his style.
Yash Chopra’s Death
Before filming was complete, Chopra was placed in the hospital. He passed away October 21, 2012 at the age of 80. This means “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” was his last film. Chopra has been so influential to Bollywood film that everyone, even if they dislike SRK films, will go to see it to honor the director/producer.
The Secret Title
Chopra kept the title of the film secret for months. He released the title along with the first movie trailer. This was a very smart move because movie lovers became curious about the title, discussed it, spread rumors about possible titles, and that kept the interest alive. When the trailer hit the Internet, everyone flocked to it. The trailer received over one million views on Youtube in one day, and currently sits at over five million. The trailer explains little about the plot. This continues to make people curious and more likely to head to the theater.
‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ References ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’
The most famous collaboration between SRK and Yash Chopra (as producer) is the film “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.” Other movies reference this film so often that it becomes annoying. Everyone knows this film. In “Jab Tak Hai Jaan,” SRK plays a man, at one part of the film, very similar to Raj in “DDLJ.” While some might roll their eyes at the unnecessary connection, devoted fans of “DDLJ” will squeal with delight.

SRK’s last several films were either action or drama films. While “My Name is Khan” had a love story, its focus was not romance. SRK’s last romance film was “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” back in 2008. Everyone has to admit that SRK does his best acting when he plays a crazed maniac or criminal, but fans love him the most when he plays a lover. No matter how old he is, or how young the woman he woos, fans want to see him smile, cry, and win the lady’s heart. In “Jab Tak Hai Jaan,” SRK will play a younger man. Can he pull it off? It doesn’t matter as long as he smiles. He’ll still sell tickets.
