Save Money by Making These Fun and Easy Birthday Party Favors

When having a children’s birthday party, one thing holds true. All of the kids look forward to their party bag, their ‘birthday party favor’ that they get to bring home with them at the end of the party. If you’ve ever wondered what the best party favors are, or how to fill party favor bags on a budget, here are great ideas that you can use!

Birthday Party Favors: Make party favors a part of the party itself
By taking time to visit a local craft store, you can find many craft kits that can fit with the theme of your child’s birthday party itself! Take advantage of these craft kits and use them as both entertainment and the large gift that will become part of their party favor bag.

Perhaps the children would love to decorate a pre-made ceramic figure. Instead of buying ceramic paints, buy a small selection of tempera paints. These are less expensive, and washable – two no-miss hits among all parents!

Young girls always love to make bracelets and necklaces. Buy age-appropriate size beads, string and other jewels and let the children have a wonderful time and a great party favor to take home! Their very own hand-made bracelet or necklace!

Birthday Party Favors: Use a theme and combine items
Use the same theme for the child’s birthday party when putting together birthday party favor bags. Is the theme a recent movie or book?

Find printable coloring pages or activities from Internet web sites. Print one of each page, then make photocopies, or print additional copies, for each child’s party favor bag. You can make your own inexpensive coloring books that are related to the party theme. Simply print out the pages and staple them together for each child’s party bag. Add a new pack of crayons for just a few pennies more.

Using cardboard, make a life-size cutout that’s related to the party theme. Cut out an oval in the face of one of the creatures in this cutout. Each child should stand behind the cutout with its face sticking through the oval cutout. Take and print each child’s picture and insert it into its party bag.

Birthday Party Favors: Save money on packaging
Birthday party favor bags are expensive and buying them adds unnecessary costs to a child’s birthday party! Instead of buying party favor bags, enlist the help of your own child and make the birthday party favor bags.

For younger children, simply gather some brown paper lunch bags, crayons or markers, stickers, glue and glitter and other supplies that you already have lying around the home. Try to decorate the party favor bags with the same theme as the birthday cake. To close the bags, simply fold over the top two times.

For an older child, you don’t even need to decorate the party favor bags. Simply write or print, “Thank you for coming to my party” and have you child sign each bag. Then fold over the top of the paper bag two times.

Use a hole-punch and punch two holes into the folded portion of the paper bag. Place the holes 3-inches apart and the same distance from the top of the bag. Cut a 1-foot piece of inexpensive ribbon. Thread the ribbon through the two holes and tie it into a bow to securely close the paper party favor bags.
