When my son was four, I bought a new bedding set for my bed. Once the initial set-up was finished, I asked my son what he thought. He looked at me quizzically, and said, “Mom – why is your bed wearing a skirt?” At first glance, boys and bed skirts aren’t two things you would think of as going together. There are many benefits to a bed skirt (or dust ruffle, which your boy would probably find equally unmanly). First, it can add some decorative flare to an otherwise plain room scheme. Secondly, it allows you to hide underbed storage drawers, which can be really useful in keeping a boy’s room organized. But finding one that doesn’t make his bed look like it’s wearing a skirt can be difficult. If you shop it right, you can find a bed skirt you’ll both agree on. Here are the best places to get them, and some great options to try.
Bed, Bath & Beyond
This store has a great selection of stylish solid bed skirts in neutral and darker tones to match any boys room décor. My favorite is the Smooth Weave Tailored Dust Ruffle (Twin – $19.99). It runs smoothly along the bottom of the bed, instead of bunching or “ruffling” like some do (making it look less skirt-like and thus, less objectionable). This twin dust ruffle also comes in several colors: black, white, ivory, sage, taupe, navy, yellow and spa blue. Another great pick for boys is the Sateen Stripe Dust Ruffle (Twin – $24.99) which comes in black, white, ivory, brown, taupe, green, light blue, red and gold. This one also leaves out the ruffle, running smoothly along the bed’s bottom edge.
Target
Target is usually a great place for up-to-date, classy décor, and twin bed skirts for boys are no exception. For a fun bed skirt, without all the cartoon characters, try the Olive Kids Out Of This World Bedskirt (Twin – $24.99). This bed skirt is patterned is navy blue and patterned with stars and polka-dot “planets”. Another versatile option is the Blue Camo Bed Skirt (Twin – $13.99) which features a fun camo pattern in four different shades of blue. And these aren’t the only ones – they offer lots of great options in solids and patterns for boys.
Linens N Things
This popular store has a wide variety of kids bedding. The Olive Kids collection offers several options in boys twin bedding, and the twin bed skirts are sold separately for $29.99. Some of the bedskirt options available under their boys bedding collections are the Dinosaurland bed skirt (aqua blue with dinosaur tracks) and Olive Kids Planes, Trains & Trucks (a light blue plaid). They also offer several bedskirts in solid colors for easy coordination with existent bedding.
JC Penney
This long-standing department store has plenty to offer in the way of boys twin bed skirts. A Harley-Davidson bed skirt is available for $29.99 and features the grey Harley-Davidson logo on a black background, making it perfect as an accent to other bedding or as part of the Harley-Davidson bedding set. The Victory Quilt Bedding also offers a stylish twin bedskirt for $29.99 that would go well with many decorative themes and features a denim-like fabric edged with red plaid.
Walmart
What does this all-American favorite have to offer in terms of bed skirts for toys? More than you might think. Though they do have bed skirts designed to match some of their boys bedding, their strength lies in their wide variety of reasonably priced solid-colored twin bed skirts. For instance, the Canopy Simply Solids Bed Skirt comes in a twin size for only $15.88 and is made of 350-thread-count cotton sateen. These are offered in various shades of reds, greens, browns and blues, and some can also be purchased in a twill fabric.
