A monokini is technically a bikini with no top, leaving a woman’s chest exposed for the entire world. While many of us may not be up for such exposure, most monokinis sold in stores today are bikinis with some sort of fabric that attaches the top of the bikini to the bottom of the bikini. So technically, it reveals enough skin to be considered a bikini, but it is one piece, hence a monokini.
Monokinis are sexy alternatives to buying two different pieces of a women’s swimsuit, preventing loss of one half of your swimsuit. This article serves to be a guide to searching for the best monokinis for the summer 2010.
1) Victoria’s Secret Plunge Monokini ($98)
Available in both black and bright pink, the Victoria’s Secret Plunge Monokini stands by its name. The neckline of this monokini plunges all the way down to the woman’s belly button. This adorable, sexy style uses two pieces of fabric to create a V-shape on your front side and leaves your entire back exposed. The swimsuit is adjustable as well so that you can control how much coverage you have.
2) Jean Paul Gaultier for Target One Piece Monokini Swimsuit ($34.99)
If you’re looking for an inexpensive yet fashionable monokini, this may be the route to go. The new Jean Paul Gaultier line for Target has been incredibly hyped, and this could be your chance to show off your new designer swimsuit when you only have to pay a few dollars for it. The metallic gold color will help you stand out on the beach and this monokini is still sexy enough to keep you feeling wonderful. The belt also adds a little extra flare.
3) Anika Brazil Belted Monokini ($175)
The Anika Brazil Belted Monokini is great for women who want their stomach covered but their back to be free. This suit has perfect cut outs along your sides to keep this women’s swimsuit sexy yet not too revealing. The ring details and leather embellishments on the side give this swimsuit just the flare it needs to keep you comfortable and feeling fashionable.
4) Billabong Runway Lace Monokini ($98)
The Billabong Runway Lace Monokini has a more unique shape than any of the other monokinis I’ve included in this guide. Instead of connected the top and bottom down the middle, the fabric connection on this monokini is offset to the side to create an eye-catching, unique look. Available in a black fabric with lacy-looking details, this monokini is wonderful if you’re interested in adding a little distinctive flare to your swimsuit this summer.
5) Juicy Couture Monokini ($160)
If you’re looking to go extra edgy this summer, try out the Juicy Couture Monokinis available from Bloomingdales. With so many designs and prints available, you’re sure to find something you’ll absolutely fall in love with. Each of the Juicy Couture monokinis available have different fits and styles but the one I’ve linked to here has an adorable navy and red design on it as well as a v-tie neckline.
