A few years ago I was looking for some fresh new craft ideas for Church Camp, and I ran across a website giving directions for using Terrifically Tacky Tape along with tiny micro beads, and the crafts looked amazing and fun. I purchased a bunch of these supplies and packed them with the rest of our camp crafts, and the kids, who were in grades 7-12, had a ball with them! Terrifically Tacky Tape is an Art Accentz product, made by Provocraft, in Spanish Fork, Utah. Since I discovered this fantastic tacky tape, I have used it for a variety of projects, and it has never failed me.
Description
This tape is clear, and the top of the tape is covered with a thin red plastic. This tape will hold beads, rhinestones, wood, glass, and a host of other materials. Even better, it will stick to wood, metal, plastic and paper, just to name a few. You can even emboss with this tape!
I usually buy this in 1/2″ thick rolls, but it is also available in 1/8″, 1/4″ and 1 1/16″ widths. My 1/2″ roll contains 5 yards of tape. It is double sided, transparent, heat resistant, non-toxic and acid free.
Directions For Use
Apply tape to a clean surface, remove the liner and apply beads, glitter, or whatever material you wish to use. It’s that easy!
My Experience
Terrifically Tacky Tape puts other brands of double sided tape to shame! This is the stickest tape I have ever used, and I have done crafts projects for years and tried them all! It is so sticky that once you get it stuck to your hands, it can be hard to pull off! You have to be careful because it will pick up whatever it touches, which can result in quite a mess when you try to remove the unwanted items from your tape. Being slow and methodical is the key to working this to your advantage.
I find that if I pull off just a little bit of tape at a time, then apply it until it adheres nicely, then pull off another inch or two and work that in, and continue working in this manner, I get the best results. I continue until my project is covered. It is very easy to cut with any scissors too, but it can stick to the scissor blades if you’re not careful. I have been making Christmas ornaments and Embellished Eggs with this tape, and it works so much better than anything else I have tried. When I applied hot glue, and even the 8000 jewelers glue to my eggs, they would not stick. I didn’t know what I was going to do until I found my Terrifically Tacky Tape!
When working with hot glue, you have to have your items ready to glue before it starts to cool off and harden, which often doesn’t give you much time – and once they are stuck they better be where you want them because there is no re-positioning them. When I use the Terrifically Tacky Tape, I can pull off my rhinestone strands or strips of decorative trim, and replace them in a better spot. Sometimes the ends of my trims will fray a bit, and I have to cut additional pieces, but they can be pulled off, with care, and replaced exactly where I want them to be.
If you are into scrapbooking, you can easily bond paper to paper, or bond glitter and beads to paper or other surfaces. This will work nicely to embellish beads to pieces of fabric, which is what I make my Christmas ornaments out of. When I used to use glue, it would get the fabric wet, which didn’t result in very pretty ornaments. This tacky tape sticks great, and my flatbacked rhinestones stick to it very securely. It also gets stronger as you allow it to “cure” over night!
This tacky tape is more expensive than other stick tapes, but it is well worth the cost. I buy my Terrifically Tacky Tape at Michael’s Craft stores, they usually have a good supply of all the different sizes. I’ve tried other brands of double sided craft tape and they don’t hold a candle to this one. If you need an ultra sticky, strong holding double sided tape, I haven’t found any better than Terrifically Tacky Tape.
