I was so happy when my husband came home with the New Glad Simply Cooking Microwave Steaming Bags. I had just had surgery on my thumb and I have a cast over my thumb, hand, wrist and arm. I have to keep my hand and arm held up to keep my hand above my heart. Well this presents a problem. I can not cook on top of the stove with out almost landing the kettle or frying pan on the floor.
The glad bags have been a lifesaver for me, especially when I am home alone. My husband will cook up the meat such as; a thin steak, chicken breast or hamburgers and I am able with one hand to put the meat in the bag and seal it and then put it in the microwave to heat less than 1 minute to warm up the meat. I let it cool down some before using my good hand and teeth to open the bag and put the meat on bread. I now can eat.
I also put part of a bag (around 2 cups) of broccoli in one of the bags and added some butter, heat on high for 3 minutes and I have nicely steamed but, yet firm enough to chew broccoli without having to add any water. If I would have left it in 1 more minute I would have had fully cooked broccoli. You can put up to 4 cups in the bags easy. But just for the 2 of us, making just what we need works nice. Which is about 2 cups of a vegetable or 2 baked potatoes..
I really liked that the meat did not shrink up in the steam bags like they would reheating them any other way. Even the broccoli did not shrink up like it does if you boil it, plus the meat and the broccoli tasted like it was just cooked. The broccoli also was bright and colorful compared to boiled broccoli that is a drab green. My third bag I have filled with fresh carrots and butter.
I especially like that the bags when opened up have flat bottom (great for no tipping over) they are easy to handle with one hand to either pull out of the refrigerator or freezer and just pop it in the microwave and set the timer. This is a really useful product. No dirty dishes, plus I can just tip the bag sideways and pour into a bowl or on a plate. No mess and no clean up of dishes that were used in the microwave. I already had my had husband pick up some more Glad bags. There are 10 bags in a box for $2.99.
The Glad Simply Cooking Microwave Steaming Bags would be great to use for Thanksgiving. The kitchen gets so warm when boiling potatoes and vegetables. Use the Glad Steaming Bags for your Vegetables, you will have nicely steamed vegetables which are healthier for you as well as you can cook them thoroughly or leave them a bit firmer.
I highly recommend trying the GLAD Simply Cooking Microwave Steaming Bags, you will love them.
