Visiting Fort Spokane, Washington

This past weekend my family and I vacationed (if that’s what you want to call it) for two nights and three days at a campground not far from our home called Fort Spokane, Washington. We were looking for an economy friendly activity with our children so that we don’t roll over endless amounts of money. So my husband and two kids brother and sister in-law at the Spokane Castle campground about an hour and half are away from us. The place itself in the camp was number thirteen dollars. The most expensive part of the trip is of course gas, although one tank will easily get you on and off the trail from camp. Another is very expensive food, but then again you can cut back. After all, it’s camping and basically just asking for hot dogs, chips, and junk food.

Fort Spokane offers hiking trails and a boat launch a short distance away. Not far from our campground (less than a three minute car ride) is a lovely beach after a short hike. Even that which was not before the casino and not the internet. In order not to promote the casino, it allows only to say that if you looked at it on paper, you would see beach deposition. The Idaho River is not far from Fort Spokane. The closest is actually the fork in the two Rivers where the Idaho River and the Columbia River join. The water is beautiful and refreshing. Not far from is the beach with green grass and shade if you like it too. Plus there’s a gas station and convenience store just in case you walk into the resort. As a personal suggestion I recommend lots of sunblock and water!

Castle Spokane offers free tours and activities for your children. Your children can become juniors by completing the activity sheet (with the help of an adult.) and taking the price of the castle. They were later sworn in at the park range and receiving the junior ranger badge at Fort Spokane. Park wanderers told us if your children also have activities in other national-park”>national they would march, themselves to collect insignia from every side.

The trip to Fort Spokane was quite interesting. The castle was actually a military camp and a boarding school in 1900. The students were from Spokane and Colville. Indians and from places as far as Alaska. But the greater part of the castle was a camp. (This information is from a Junior Ranger workshop offered for completion that was published by the Northern Interpretive Association.) Only two buildings were still standing and had been renovated. Most of the foundations of the buildings are no longer standing but the ranger was able to tell us the history of the fort and the hike was quite relaxing. We also saw wild life such as deer and a couple of snakes that kept the children interested as well. They also began to explore the bats in the stables and roam the park, which turned the race into an expedition for them.

It was a wonderful weekend full of swimming, hiking, a tour of Spokane Castle, and the usual campfire. Oh and let’s not forget the sisters. The site was very affordable and a relaxing spot without needing much fruit to complete. I recommend this place to others and everyone looking for some fun.
