Indianapolis is full of great hotels, with prices ranging from very cheap to very expensive. There are several unique hotels only in Indy. Holiday Inn and Cove Caribbean at I-465 and Michigan Road houses a 50,000 sq. ft. a waterpark that includes three large pools, a lazy river and a gallery. There are many good restaurants, with a chance at a waterpark. If you’re looking for a really different place to stay, try Corona Plaza at the historic Union, where you can. Stay in an authentic Pullman train car. The cars are slightly smaller than the average hotel room, but they don’t lack any charms, and make sure your kids don’t forget to try them soon.
A place to eat
Indianapolis offers plenty of family-friendly restaurants. The old Spaghetti Factory in the city center offers delicious Italian food at a reasonable price. Make sure to ride the carousel and shop for souvenirs in the gift shop. food is sure to have something for everyone!
The Indianapolis Zoo and White River Park is a world class zoo and botanical garden on the banks of the White River. Inside, do not miss the dolphin dome in the underwater area, the new cheetah exhibit, or hundreds of animals in their natural habitats. There are plenty of dining and shopping options at the zoo as well. There are also many family attractions in the zoo, including a train, carousel and roller coaster.
Indianapolis has many museums for adults and kids alike to learn and explore. The Indiana State Museum houses a Natural Museum and teaches about Indian history. Eiteljorg is home to Native American and Western art, with a lower level full of exhibits and activities just for kids. The Indianapolis Museum of Art wants to have an art park that kids love to explore and play. Conner’s history museum teaches the whole family what it was like to live in pioneer times and you can even ride in the hot air takes to see you will not soon forget.
The downtown canal is a great place for families to play. Whether it’s a walk along the canal or renting a four-wheel bike, it’s a beautiful place that visitors and locals alike enjoy. You can also take a pedal boat ride on the canal, or ride in a gondola. There is a war memorial on the bank, as is the steamer clock in front of the State Museum. The Eiteljorg, the Indiana State Museum and the Sports Hall of Champions are all adjacent to the canal. Be sure to bring your camera!
Water Fun
If you’re looking for a place to cool off in the city, there are plenty of waterparks to cool off. Splash Island in Plainfield is a tropical theme that includes a lazy river and plenty of water. Indy Island is an indoor waterpark in the eastern part of the city. On the north side, be sure to visit the Monon Community Center in Carmel.
Events
There are many annual events in Indianapolis for families to enjoy. The Indy 500 takes place in May at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Speed also commands the Brickyard 400. Black Expo runs for 10 days in July, it is the largest ethno-cultural event in the United States. The Indiana State Fair begins in August, celebrating Indiana traditions from the middle to the animal food display. Many other events such as the Irish Festival, the Jazz Festival, and the RibAmerica Festival. During the summer you will be able to find a unique event almost every weekend.
Shopping
There are many shopping opportunities in Indianapolis. There are several large malls in the suburbs, such as Greenwood South Mall and Castleton Square Mall. North Downtown has the Circle Center Mall, the Artsgarden with a wonderful view of the city and a variety of free events. Mass Ave is a great place to find unique gifts and includes Mass Ave toys, a great toy store for kids of all ages will enjoy The sprawling Ripple Village is full of boutiques and restaurants. Don’t forget the Children’s Museum and Zoo Store, with great gifts and toys for kids and adults alike.
Leisure
There are several places to play mini golf in Indy, including the oldest country park from Arlington Avenue. This unique putt-putt course and driving course seems to be located far from the city. Great times Family Fun Park mini golf, boat dock, go-karts and arcade. There are several parks with opportunities to fish, watch, play, or just enjoy nature, such as Fort Harrison State Park and Eagle Creek Park. There are many city-park, such as Garfield Park with plenty of shelters and playgrounds, as well as a conservatory and outdoor garden.
