“It’s time to play the music, it’s time to turn on the lights, it’s time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet show tonight…”
The first line was more than just the start of a TV show; It meant that thousands of viewers were sitting in front of the television for the next ½ hour. Adults and kids alike loved The MUPPET SHOW when it started running in 1976. There was absolutely nothing else like it – a TV show starring a talking frog, a pig, a bear, a dog, and whatever Gonzo was (this is still up for debate). Author Jim Henson could not have imagined when he created his famous green friend what his visions and dreams would become. Starting with a green piece of mother’s shirt, a ping pong ball in the middle (eyes), incredible imagination. and with a wonderful sense of humor, Kermit the Frog (creator of the happy group of Muppets) has become the most famous puppet in the world (and perhaps the only one to overshadow Yoda, whose voice is provided by Henson’s partner Frank Oz). But the MUPPET show wasn’t the beginning.
Children around the world have grown up with Jim Henson and his Muppets since 1969. He inspired the small educational PBS show that everyone knows as SESAME VIA. He brought to our lives – with Frank Oz and many other talented “Muppeteers” – Bert and Ernie, Grover, Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch and many others too numerous to mention here (a completely faltering character). I don’t know if I would have grown up without SESAME STREET. For the record, Jim Henson’s talent was not only relegated to SESAME STREET. To FRAGGLE he moved to television rock and the big screen effort between six Muppet films and magical fantasies IN Crystal and LABRYINTH established the Creature Factory, a puppet studio and special effects dynasty.
But THE MUPPET SHOW brings everyone together with Jim Henson. First, Season One is available on DVD and the show’s accomplishments are almost as astounding as the talent it represents: 5 seasons, 120 episodes and 44 Emmy nominations. Among the weird heroes are all the other Muppeteers except Henson and, of course, the show has had a cast of hundreds, countless represented in this collection. THE MUPPET SHOW lasted longer in its original run than most shows on television today and is still in syndication all over the world (also from Theme Parks< /a> attraction at Disney’s MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida).
Filmed in England, countless celebrities flocked across the pond to Mr. Teeth & amp; Electric Mayhem band for a musical number (including rock royalty Elton John and even shock rocker Alice Cooper), or just to see if the Swedish Chef would actually be able to cook a meal without chasing him around the kitchen. Season One arrives at retail as a Special Edition 4-DVD collectible box set in a furry green touch cover [Yes, kids, Kermit said it was okay, and no frogs were harmed in the making of this DVD set]. All shows (including two never-before-seen shows) include an introduction by Henson’s son, have been completely restored and remastered, and the set includes the original pilot episode.
What better tribute to a man who shared our childhood, and for many, our age. Jim Henson passed away in May 1990, but his dreams still live on. And through collections like this, SESAME STREET, its films and television shows, Kermit the Frog and the rest of the Muppet gang will live on in our hearts forever.
