Doing a Bathroom Makeover: Remove Stubborn Wallpaper, Primer and Paint in Just One Day

I didn’t know when I started, but in just one day I was able to complete the design of my bathroom. I removed the floor, which was the hardest part since there were so many unknowns, with primer (three layers are enough) and painted my entire bathroom in less than seven hours. I went into the plan prepared for everything.

When I decided to makeover my bathroom, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The unknown included not knowing how old the wallpaper was, how many layers were underneath, the type of glue the wallpaper was, even the type of the part behind that paper< /a>. With these unknowns there was no way to delay the time required. I learned as I went, but I was very prepared for any and all scenarios for the fastest rounds.

The last thing I wanted to do was to have a home project take place over a period of three days or, worse, two weekends, but I also don’t spend a lot of money on a steamer. I could even hire someone for the money it costs to hire one too. To avoid this, I went in prepared. I researched at my local home improvement store and bought accessories for all kinds of walls that can be mine.

I bought the following;

  • DIF 32 oz. Ready to use Gel Spray
  • Sponges
  • Perforating Tool-Wheel
  • Wallboard Knife
  • Bucket
  • Paper towels

I knew that there were three types of wall: bare, stripped on the top layer and traditional wallpaper.

  1. bare wallpaper resonates easily. If you have this type of wallpaper, you’re in luck, but unfortunately it wasn’t for me. Early on I knew I didn’t have this kind of thing by just choosing a corner of the wall and trying to pull it off using a wall knife.
  2. The top layer of wallpaper with gray can be easily removed but it leaves an attached paper underneath which must be cleaned with a removal agent
  3. .
It is very difficult to remove

  4. traditional wallpaper too. You need to remove a thick strip of glued paper, which can be difficult and time consuming, but can be done with the right tools.
    • As it turned out, I layered the top type of pebbles. I put down a paper towel to protect my boards and then took off the thick floral print paper and was left with the white paper glued underneath. Surprisingly, the glue removal solution did little to help. It was also seen to strengthen the adhesives already in the film that had dulled over time. In the end, it is difficult to scrape on the film with a dry solution than without. It just so happened that I decided to use the agent, but I suggest trying it on a small part of the wall first before applying it to the whole area.

After the entire wall after work hours was stripped, I filled it in about four hours. the addition of hot water to the glue, the removal of the iodine and the sponge that remains, which remains to be wiped off. It was time to paint. I was charmed once, twice, then three times. Maybe overkill but the wall was in bad shape underground and after two coats of paint, it looked like this. a completely different bathroom.

It turned the worst small room, rental, one room into a room where I now laugh all the time. will enter I couldn’t believe that one day could involve so much work, but the hard work and sweat was well worth the reward.

The photos above are before and after photos of my actual project.
