Mardi Gras Costumes: DIY Craft Ideas

Have you ever wanted to make your own Mardi Gras costume? Most importantly, if you know someone who lives in South Louisiana, they’ve made at least a simple Mardi Gras costume and are probably envious of this thing.

Mardi Gras costumes are usually bright and often contain the colors of Mardi Gras – green, purple, and gold (or golden yellow). They have nothing so fancy as the costumes that the Kings and Queens “Krewes” group, who hire Mardor Gras for the season and work on the rafts.

In fact, there is a group called Mardorum Gras Revelers. While their costumes are going to be more complicated than these costumes, this is a simple way to dress up a Mardi Gras costume. You will need the following supplies to make this Mardi Gras Costume.

1 T-shirt

Fabric Paint

Gold or Yellow Fabric Penalty

Green Paint Fabric

Sponge Brushes

tennis shoes

Cheap baby umbrellas or cheap umbrellas just like from dollar store

Lots of gold, purple, and green sequins

Gold, purple, green, and silver shine

Hot glue gun (or E6000)

A “zorro” figure of any color, which can probably be found at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby

Green, yellow, and purple fake feathers

T-shirt shape

First, be careful not to get dressed in this one day. In fact, give yourself at least three days if not an entire week to complete this Mardi Gras costume.

Collect all the necessary items and keep them in one area. First, wash the shirt to remove all stains. The coat is cooked. Place the shirt in the shirt form. If you’ve ever been to south Louisiana, chances are you’ve seen or have a shirt that has one bold yellow pin, one bold green pin, and one bold purple pin running around the entire shirt. If you have one, you can skip this part of Mardi Gras dressing.

Brush the sponge and write one color for each. Decide which color will be at the top, which will be in the middle, and which will be at the bottom. Then he will wipe the bruises with paint across the shirt sponge. After the lashes are painted, wash the forehead. Let the front of the shirt dry one day.

The next day, take a sponge brush (or new sponge brushes, if you have enough of these) and paint the back of the shirt in the same way that you painted the front of the shirt. If you need to look at the front before you start, settle down a bit and note where you are going to paint. After you have painted the back of the shirt, let the shirt dry for a day and make sure to wash it. After the paint is dry, run the coat through your dryer.

Now, wash and dry the tennis shoes. Next, take the sequins and hot glue gun. Hot glue different sequins all over the tennis shoes so that they shine in all the colors of the Mardo Gras. Let the glue dry so that the sequins stick to the shoes when you wear them.

Then take the mask and glue any sequins and shine on it as a Mardi Gras decoration. Feathers are also masks. Place at least one feather of each color sticking up in the top corner of the mask. We will see this mask rather than one of the fancy Mardi Gras masks. Let the mask be dry.

Now take the umbrella, and despite the warnings open an umbrella at home, open it. Find each section of the umbrella and divide that section by color (using a pattern like this). The section is usually the part between each metal rod that holds the umbrella up. Cover one section in just green sequins, then next to that section in gold, then next to that section, cover the following in purple. Repeat the pattern until all sections are covered. Let the glue be dry.

After the glue is dry in the umbrella, the glue on the seat, and the glue cover shine silver. Don’t let the huge fern pile up with silver glitter. This is just to add to the brilliant umbrella. Let the glue dry in an umbrella.

Now you have a Mardos Gras costume. Put on a shirt, others field blue (or colored pants if you have purple, green, or gold pants); and tennis shoes. Bring an umbrella and hold it proudly while you dance to songs like Mardos Gras Mambo and other Cajun and Zydeco favorites.
