A Review of the Movie “The Motorcycle Diaries”

The house is not big. Maybe it’s a good thing. It depends on you, the only audience member. The film chronicles Ernesto “Che” Guevara’s formative years as a medical student in Buenos Aires and his downright epic adventure across South America from Buenos Aires to Colombia. Cinematography, editing, dialogue and acting from very appropriate to first rate. This is set in 1952, a decade when communist and socialist ideals were really starting to take root in Latin America. The eight-mile long odyssey is part travelogue and part political (some might say spiritual) excitement. Although he lightly treads the politics of “Che” and his role as an iconic, you could even say, secular leftist “saint” of the Castro Regime, he is burdened with a load of baggage from what we know of Ernesto “Che” Guevara. . It overshadows the whole thing.

More for some, less for others.

In The Motorcycle Diaries of the Stars Gael Garcia Bernal as “Che,” Alberto Granado as Buddy Rodrigo de la Serna. The voting parties are all very well done. The peasants are convinced that the peasants are the rich parents of Argentine nobility, the girlfriend of “Fuser” (which is Guevara’s nickname in his youth). And the lepers and the nuns in the Peruvian leper colony are very… well you know. Everyone is convinced, even the only mechanic’s wife. and so it follows.

This is a movie that inhabits a sub-genre; that is “The Great Man in his formative years sub-genre.” Many times these days this genre is used as a prequel to the original biographical film. This movie would be like a prequel to “Ivan the Terrible, The Teenage Years. It’s hard to separate the tyrant from the safe teenager for many reasons. any image of Ernesto “Che” Guevara that depicts him in any positive or sympathetic light.

Me, or one of my iUe, is a great reason to split the “Motorcycle Diaries”. In Beautiful period scenes of South America region and people. Both foreign and foreign, dramatic and bucolic, they are still filled with Native American crafts for the most part they still aren’t. today some have been acculturated 500 or so years after the Spanish Conquest. Earth is a movie star in many ways. From the Pampas of Argentina to the Andes of Chile and Peru to the rivers of power and wear. What an exorcism!

Can’t complain too much. The whole life of Che Guevara will be taken up in the film as a biography of two very different people. The young man had hopes and dreams and a good nature and a common touch. The future is another story. It would be a very different movie. Nobody still, I believe, knows what that movie was. Or what of all?

Che Guevara died a martyr’s death, the Bolivian army was captured and killed. Most at the behest of the CIA. It is another story, not yet these many decades after the fact. It’s going to be great, and no one is ready just now.

So they enjoy “Motorcycle Blogs for what it offers. It contributes a lot.
