Many people have written about what to look for when looking for a home nurse for your loved one. As a daughter who is currently in a rehabilitation center, Whitehall of Boca Raton, Florida located at 7300 Del Prado Circle South, I can look at the differences between nursing homes and rehab facilities and give you some tips that have helped me personally.
Whitehall was once a nursing home. Their name in all letters is Whitehall of Boca Raton. However, when I searched I saw it listed as Whitehall Boca Raton Nursing Home.
Who cares about children’s struggles from time to time. Sometimes, as is the case with Boca Manor in Boca Raton, Florida, the nursing home has a wing for rehabilitation patients. My mom was in Boca Manor many years ago when she fell and broke her hip. Roca Manor short on staff; short in compassion, short in patience.
My mother fell at the end of January and was sent to Whitehall in February. 3. I do not check from what I said that what was said by relatives was good. It is good, though not to blame. One of the first things I noticed is that unlike Boca Manor, there aren’t residents sitting in the halls screaming to go back to their rooms. During that time, I asked the staff if I could take the patient back to his room, and he said bluntly, “He always does this.” I mentioned this to staff at Whitehall and was assured that it would never happen. Recently, on the twelfth day for leisure in London, I was in this room for 8 hours a day, and I was impressed with the care.
Tips to be careful/caregiver
1. Make yourself known. There are many patients who do not have one, and it is very sad. I’m lucky that I don’t work or have children at home so I can spend this much time. at Whitehall. There are two floors with two wings on each floor. The intention of the nurses is to know me; the resident coordinator knows me; physical and occupational therapists know me; know me in social workers; He knows me as a Dietician and perhaps the most excellent Director knows me. I called him twice. The first time was to let her know that my mom was in bed for 40 minutes and the second time was to tell her that Whitehall would provide physical therapy if I continued to be the “helper” who lifted mom out of bed for her wheelchair or walker. Both cases have been reviewed and corrected with an apology. Which is better… sometimes.
2. Take care that you are healthy. The fitting room is in our condo in Florida that I use. Years ago I joined a Yoga studio that I really like. I write every night because I find it cathartic. I am glued together. My connection is always with me. However, I find that I am not eating as much as I should and I am tired. If you can help out a few hours a week. to go to the movies; go shopping; get a manicure; a meeting of friends.
Connect with beauticians, dentists and other important people in your life. I have to have my teeth cleaned every three months. Rather than requiring my training in Massachusetts, I will see that I have been a hygienist in a dentist’s office in the past.
What makes Whitehall good?
1. The faculty has a great recreation department. This was missing from the Roca Manor nursing home. Almost every day my mother plays Bingo. Almost every day there is an hour of music. There are jewelry making sessions, key care sessions and lectures on heart care, diabetes, etc. weekend with food and great information from vendors. They show movies and provide pet therapy. Your dog can actually visit!
2. The staff listens. They do not always remember, but it is the staff of the kingdom of faith. But my mother has a wound on her foot and one strap. They make her go back. That wound is followed by a doctor but these wounds are now infected and I don’t know what to do. I am a training advocate. If I don’t know what to do then others really need help.
3. The facility is clean. Earthen vessels are constantly cleaned; they wash a miracle once a week; everyone with whom we come in contact smells as good as Whitehall.
4. There is a nice patio with fresh air panels. They have tea parties when the weather is nice. None of this happened at Roca Manor. My mother stayed in her room all day except for physical therapy.
5. Whitehall is known for its outstanding physical and occupational staff. My mother was making incredible progress until these wounds. I was quite impressed with how far he had come and how far he had come before the 2nd of April. We are now up to April 30th.
6. There are food choices which make eating at Whitehall not a horrible experience. At Boca Manor we paid for the upgraded menu so my mother could eat. She had been to another house where the nurse was going, starving. I found the Manor Rock, which, although horrible, had food to eat.
7. Sometimes something medical happens like a cut on my hand, Whitehall, should call family members what they do. .
What makes Whitehall evil?
1. The staff does not come as quickly as we would like. The symptoms of the patient’s account meet the staff, but do not go above the standard. The charge for a semi-private room is $238.00 a day, which Medicare will cover. The length of time it will cover depends on your plan. Rooms are $100 a day more than you pay out of pocket.
2. Communication with staff is lacking. Every Wednesday there are team meetings which are great, but they happen during that time and are not always shared with other staff. For example he had an immobilizer on his leg. Her physical-therapist therapist had suggested that she not wear it during periods so that her leg could breathe. What was never shared with the nursing staff resulted in another wound in the leg!
3. There is no facility for family members or guests to have a cup of coffee or take any food. We were told that if we call the kitchen two hours in advance, we can pay for the meal ($7.00) but I would prefer a dining room/casual of some kind.
4. The staff can be rough. I understand that they are expensive and laborious, but my mother is a fragile 78 years old . When this is treated as less than 100 dignity or less than 100% tameness, it makes my blood boil. I received a call from her at 10:00 p.m. When Melrose changed the heel band, they were too rough – almost malicious. In fact, before the staff realized how bad his wound was and that my second mother accused Melros, who rarely complains, of “not tolerating the pain well.”
5. Whitehall of Boca Raton needs more parking!
In Summary
Whitehall of Boca Raton is a decent facility if you unfortunately need to have repair services. As I write this I have arrived in Florida. My mother is better now that I am here! I’m still frustrated… Who will listen to me enough? Shall I call David Alexander, the Director, and ask for a meeting? Is it okay for mom to be on intravenous antibiotics? I know I don’t want to end up in the hospital so I will do whatever it takes to save myself, but sometimes I feel helpless and hopeless. I know that I need to take care of myself so that I don’t get hurt. All of this is difficult for everyone, but I know one thing: a rehabilitation facility is not a long-term rehabilitation facility for patients, it is a better rehabilitation center than a nursing home with a rehabilitation wing.
