When spring arrives, most of us want to make our yards and landscapes look their best. The shores are very pleasant, but if they were several feet from the ground, they would not be able to look so much. The easiest and cheapest way to hide the empty space under the deck is to add rails to the bottom.
The fence is pretty cheap and you can have it already painted so you don’t have to paint it yourself. It provides a grill cover while at the same time allowing air to flow under the deck which helps to dry it after rain. And, it also makes great borders if climbing plants decorate the vines around.
If your deck is several feet off the ground, you may want to consider adding doors to the railings. If you add a door, you can use the empty space underneath for storage. And it will also allow you to clean up any dead leaves, grass, or trash that finds its way under your boat.
To add railings to the deck, you need hardware and materials. But if you like to make home improvements, you probably already have everything you need to do the job. You will need a ruler, a circular, a drill, a square and a level. And, always use safety glasses.
You need enough rails to cover the entire bottom of your deck and you can either use galvanized screws or nails to secure the board to the board. You’ll also need some treated 2″ x 2″ boards and enough 2″ x 4″ boards to make a shelf around the bottom on the ground.
Reconciliation can be approached in two ways. You can nail or screw them directly into the boards, or you can purchase the rail rings. A crown lock will give your office a more complete look. There is a crown that has a furrier on each side, where you insert the ends of the rails.
Before you start decorating by measuring to see how much material you need, remember to measure the 4′ x 8′ rails on the paper. It is highly unlikely that the panels that support the deck will fit these exact dimensions. So you need to attach the rails.
If your deck is really close to the ground, it probably won’t be a wooden bottom. You will need to start by cutting the 2″ x 4″ so that the posts will fit together. Then just screw them on the bikes until the bottom is about 3 or 4 inches above the ground.
Once you’ve got the bottom machine working, it’s time to start adding the vertical board. It is very important that you measure each one before you cut it. Since the earth is probably not completely flat, the runners will all measure different sizes.
You can attach each vertical edge to cut, that way you won’t have it mixed up, and you don’t need to find again which one goes where. The posts will start at the bottom of the deck and extend to the board you made around the ground.
Since the railing comes in sheets that are 8 feet wide, you’ll want to install a brace every two feet. By placing two feet apart, you will have to join the ends of the rails. And the center of the rails will also provide support.
If you want a finished look, but don’t want the expense of buying additional buttons, you can use 1″ x 4″ boards. The boards can be cut and placed over the joints of the railings to give a nicer appearance. The panels can be painted to match the railings, or painted with a different color to add a splash of color.
If you decide to add a door so that you can store things under the boat, make sure to choose hardware that is made outside. The hardware that is inside in use at home quickly rusts. And make sure you attach the door panels firmly so they don’t sag.
