Snuggie. I thought to myself, even the name sounds silly. Who needs a blanket with sleeves? That’s what sweatshirts and real blankets are for, right? Well, I was wrong! My roommate gave me a snuggy, and it’s warm, comfortable, and soft. Everything the commercials say it is!
For those who don’t know, Snuggie is one of those As Seen on TV items. It’s a fleece blanket with oversized sleeves. Its purpose, according to the commercials, is to free your arms so that you can still use them while staying warm. It’s large enough for me to have my feet covered easily, and I’m 5’6. The sleeves are long enough that I look a little like the little blue wizard from the Final Fantasy video game series, which makes them great for keeping my hands covered when I don’t want to use them. The Snuggie even comes in three different colors, burgundy, royal blue, and sage green. I have the royal blue and it’s a very pretty, vibrant color. I have used it while on my laptop, sitting at the kitchen table, while watching TV, and even curled up in it to sleep one night when I was particularly cold.
That’s all the good stuff, now I just want to point out, in the commercials you see people walking around in the Snuggies. It isn’t that easy to be mobile in them. I mean, if it was you might was well be wearing a robe, right? But the people in the commercials must have had it pinned behind them. There’s nothing to keep it on you when completely upright. That’s something that they’ll probably add if Snuggie gets popular. It’s also a little too long to walk around in, but that’s perfect for when you’re sitting or reclining.
Comparing the good with the bad, I’d say that the benefits far outweigh not being able to walk around easily in it! I’ve found the cats in my house sleeping on my Snuggie more than once, so it even has the feline stamp of approval.
It’s very easy to get a Snuggie for yourself. They’re not expensive, and there are always deals on them. Right now, the Snuggie website has Buy One Get One Free on all Snuggies, and they each come with a tiny book light with an insanely bright lamp on it. One Snuggie is $19.95 plus $7.95 shipping and handling, and the extra one only adds shipping and handling costs to your order. That’s roughly $18 a piece for each Snuggie and book light set.
