Vortex – Since 1992, Vortex has been serving up what many consider the best burgers in Atlanta. Now with two locations: Midtown and Little 5 Points, you don’t have to go far to find one great burger. Vortex draws a diverse crowd, from bankers to bikers and everyone in between, which is what makes Vortex such a great burger joint. I haven’t even talked about food yet. While you can get a basic burger, you have to try one of those burgers to really get to know Vortex. Try the Hell Burger with pepperjack cheese and jalapeno peppers. Or maybe mix it up with a spicy chorizo mix. If you like to make burgers the way you want, just go ahead and order the Double Bypass with two fried eggs, six pieces of American cheese, and eight pieces of bacon, all served between two grilled cheese sandwiches. Make sure you dial 911 on speed when you eat this. Don’t forget to try the french fries and also tater tots.
Counter – One of the newest burger joints in Metro Atlanta. From here you need to head north, up GA 400 and exit at Mansell Rd. At 850 Mansell Rd. you will find some of the best burgers anywhere. Peripatetics are all custom-made burgers. When you come in, the look is pretty simple. The clipboard will be delivered with the map. Choose what kind of burger you want, what you want, and what you want with it. I thought the burger combinations were endless, but some math geek must have figured out there are 312,120 different burger combinations. Every burger I’ve had at The Forum has been delicious. As a bonus, Danger has a great bar and unlike a lot of other burger places, if you have room, try the desserts.
Ann Snack Bar – No trip to Atlanta is complete without a visit to Ann’s Snack Bar. Now don’t think it’s a big deal. Located on Memorial Drive in Atlanta, Ghetto Burger was rated the best burger in America by the Wall Street Journal in 2007. The Ghetto Burger is basically a double cheese bacon and chili burger. Ann Price is in charge of the snack bar and the abacus seats 8. I don’t know how he does it, but the burghers are smart. Don’t be too rude, Ann will put you in the right place. Think “Soup Nazi” from Seinfeld. You may have to wait a bit, but it’s worth the wait. Try some lippie and a cold drink and you’re set. Ann’s Snack Bar in Atlanta at 1615 Memorial Dr.
