Balancing the Chakras with Reiki

There are seven major energy centers in the body called “Chakras”.

Reiki hand positions usually cover the major chakras of the body. Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel and chakras can be seen as colored vortices of energy in our body.

Each chakra is associated with a physical organ and a different layer in the spiritual aura. For they are part of the consciousness or soul, and are in a way superior to our natural being.

Many Reiki practitioners use the chakras to direct focus and universal energy. Energy is absorbed through the chakras and distributed throughout the body.

By working with and understanding the various chakras, you can pay attention to your own and others’ mental, physical, emotional and spiritual energy.

Chakras were not taught as part of the traditional Reiki System but have been added in recent years. Some Masters teach Chakras as part of the system along with Reiki. It is helpful for the student to become familiar with the chakras as in the Western Reiki traditions these are where the hands hold.

Some schools teach techniques for opening and closing the chakras, some use pendants to terminate the chakra wire and use this as an oracle if the chakra is blocked.

How much emphasis to put on the Chakras in Reiki is up to each student. However, remember the basic principles of Reiki: by doing nothing, everything happens. Abusing the chakras is an active act and therefore seems to conflict with the original Reiki instructions.

There are seven chakras:

  • Crown Chakra
  • Third eye chakra
  • Throat Chakra
  • Heart Chakra
  • Solar Plexus Chakra
  • Sacral Chakra
  • Root Chakra

Balance your chakras

  • Squat in a comfortable position with a pillow under your knees to take the stretch out of your lower back.
  • Place left hand your third-eye chakra and the other one by 1 chakra.

  • Close your eyes, breathe slowly and open to the Reiki energy. Imagine light and energy flowing through the top of your head, through your heart chakra and out through your hands.< /li>
  • Take several minutes on this until you feel the time change.
  • Now move your left up to the 2nd Chakra and the other down to your Throat Chakra. Hold this position for a while.
  • Then move your left to the Heart Chakra and your right to the Solar Plexus Chakra. Hold this position for a while, then just keep moving your hands around the chakras randomly for as long as you want.

Performing the above and similar Reiki exercises is important to allow your body to relate to this energy. This will help you balance your energy and feel good.

Also, you will be more in tune with the energy vibrations and the energy you feel. A teacher can guide and explain, but everyone experiences Reiki differently and you have to experiment with the energy and see how it feels. These exercises will also help you to believe in your mind and intuition.
