As a “hold on” mom, I ran into the usual questions from my daughter about makeup and skincare. I asked other mothers and friends for some great advice. I decided to share the tips that I found useful with you.
SKINCARE
A good movie is one of the best gifts you can give your daughter. Often times they thrive, they also deal with hormonal changes that result in acne, body odor, and body hair. Microfiber washcloths $5 for a pack of 8 (look for them in the automotive section), I encourage her to use these to wash her face at night . Gently exfoliate and feel so soft. I also buy it pure with salicylic acid 0.5%, this helps to treat it gently on the skin as well as the cleanser. that I find it’s not too harsh, and it really helps clear blackheads. For larger breakouts, I recommend applying benzoyl peroxide. I never put this all over her face because it dries so, we’ll just put it on the outside and leave it in tonight. In the morning before school, a quick witch hazel toner is all you need. Witch hazel helps to normalize the skin, and the oil in the sinuses keeps the nose shining.
Sunscreen is essential in this age. Starting with a good attitude is crucial, the rise in cases of skin cancer. Sunscreen also acts as a moisturizer and even oily skin benefits from moisture. We often dry out our skin with products and our skin’s only defense is to increase oil production. Thus we are caught in a vicious cycle. Simply adding moisturizer will often help avoid this trap and can make your skin less oily than if you skipped this step. An SPF 15 sunscreen is recommended at least. There are tons of sunscreens on the market, just look for something that’s gentle and doesn’t clog pores. Sunscreens that are body based, such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Or it is chemical based, for example containing oxybenzone. By teaching her to use sunscreen every day, you are helping her start a habit that will benefit her for the rest of her life.
FOUNDATION
Foundation is tricky when it comes to tweens. Often there are acne problems that they want to hide, but we don’t want them to walk around with a full face or makeup. It is balanced, and it is mineral foundation. This allows for some coverage, even removes some of the oil shine from the face, and as an added benefit – they often contain SPF. It has a very natural finish and is almost fool proof, allowing for easy application in hectic mornings. Mineral foundations are also good for her skin, and not like po- liquid foundations. There are so many formulas and price ranges that you can easily find any kind of mineral foundation whatever your budget.
Roar
When it comes to eyebrows, they want to push the limits and go for bright colors that are not school or age appropriate In many cases. Teaching your intern how to highlight their eyes using natural sounds is an easy way to take steps in makeup without a boat. Often the black liner is too harsh on the inside, it needs soft flattering every eye color. Tones of brown, taupe, beige, and copper can bring out the beauty of the eyes, without making the face look worn out, or worse… old! Explain to them that the liner should be used as close to the lash line as possible for a natural effect. Applying just the lid shade helps to hide mistakes and gives just a hint of color. Save teaching them about contouring until they are older and fitter. Now, let’s go simply, easily and fairly.
Mascara can sometimes be more complicated than eyeshadow. Inner lashes often have very rich lashes and don’t need volumizing formulas, but more productive formulas tend to make lashes look “fake”. Whence the valley becomes less. A light color will give the most natural results, but brown/black will look more natural than black. The waterproof formula washes away from the eyes, but is more difficult to remove at night. You don’t want to do it often with the eyelash curler, however if she is curious and wants to try, teach her to use it carefully and gently not to hold the eyelashes would draw out At night, an effective way to remove waterproof-mascara is with petroleum jelly and a microfiber washcloth. Apply a thin film of petroleum jelly on the lashes and, using a microfiber, gently wipe until completely removed. A small amount of petroleum jelly left on the lashes will fix them and help prevent breakage or loss from the drying effects of most mascaras.
Lip gloss is every tweens’ “must have” item. This is one area where we allow more individuality. Most highly pigmented lip glosses don’t just give a soft, subtle color. Whether you love your blush pinks or peaches or corals or even purple tones, the gloss can easily wear any of those colors, while giving off a subtle hint of lip color. There are also lip moisturizer balms that give color without the shine of glosses. Both are great choices. Save your lipstick while it lasts, because glosses are now king.
Embarrassment is the one item that I think tweens need the least. The vibrancy and joy of youth are enough to make the cheeks flush, which does not go artificially. If you want to try it, again recommend a mineral-based product in a soft pink or peach color depending on the tones in your natural blush. Often just a simple sprinkling of apples on the cheeks is all that is needed.
Whatever you choose to use, don’t forget to teach about the mixture. Rutrum never had a rougher line. Blush, eyes, foundation, everything should be blended well. This is a step that some do not understand and often forget. Blending is essential to a natural look that doesn’t scream makeup.

A haircut is one of the rights of passage in young life. Suddenly they have a skirt and hair legs and are curious about shaving, but they are often afraid of razors. I found the perfect solution for this. I got bikini razors for my daughter, Noxema makes a great version that is about $3 for a pack of 4. These come with a guard in front of the razor that lifts the hair but keeps the razor from touching the skin. My underarms and even his legs shave easily without risk of cuts or nicks. It is also good to use moisturizing shaving cream to soften the hair so that it can be easily removed.
Antibacterial body wash is also another essential in this age. Their hormones rise to new levels with body odor. An antibacterial body washremoves odors can also help with acne on the chest or back.
One of my favorite perfumes. However, at that age I prefer to use something lighter. A great option are body sprays. There are tons of fragrance options and they can fit any budget because they are often very inexpensive. One of the benefits of body spray is that it is difficult to apply too much. It often dries to an almost imperceptible smell, which is not encountered in schools or elsewhere.
Fingernail polish is one of those items that I am obsessed with. She loves all the crazy colors. There are many natural beauty tips in the market as well. But if you want to let her go wild with her nail polish, make sure she saves her nails. short makes nails stronger colors not distracting. Buying a moisturizing nail polish remover will help avoid dry, brittle nails when changing nail polish frequently.
I hope these tips and ideas help make the transition from child to intern in your family smoother as well.
