With each passing year, the demand for public school teachers continues to rise. Current statistics predict that over 200,000 public school teachers have been hired due to constant demands to replace teachers entering retirement or those who have decided to leave the profession altogether. The special education population continues to grow in which student teachers meet the special needs and requirements of each state. The number of bilingual students continues to grow and teachers need to meet the demands of this growing population of Second Language Learners. Demand for certain subject areas such as mathematics, physics and chemistry continues to rise as teachers enter the field, although because of the scarcity, it is not necessary to have the condition of education or knowledge to teach the subject. “Urban and poor communities will have the greatest need for teachers, with more than 700,000 additional teachers over the next decade.” (Yasin, 1999) On top of this, the expected demand for teachers has exceeded the probable increase in available teachers. Instructors are indeed needed in the United States.
Master Made
To become a certified math teacher, one must first obtain a degree through an educational program. When he is admitted to the program, he usually expects a preliminary student teaching experience. State licensing requirements depend on the level a person wants to teach and the state’s exam requirements. This status varies by state. In state of Florida a person must pass all three parts of the Florida Master Certification which is also known. to The person then applies to become a certified educator through the Florida Department of Education.
Another method that districts in Florida are using with the demand for teachers is so, some districts have provided Temporary certification in which teachers can work. while trying to obtain permanent certification. “Florida has a two-part certification system that provides a unique tobegin teaching under a non-renewable temporary certificate, demonstrating the subject matter knowledge in which the professional’s education and examination are completed for the professional certificate. The professional certificate requires that candidates demonstrate mastery in three areas: (1) knowledge general, (2) subject matter knowledge, and (3) professional competence and education” (Author Unknown, 2008).
Upon becoming an Algebra teacher, individuals will first have a bachelor’s degree in a subject in which Florida offers certification. Each topic must meet the content requirements. To become an Algebra teacher, individuals must have either a Professional Educator Certificate or Eligibility Certificate from State of Florida Department of Education in the area of Algebra.
As the number of children in Florida rises, so does the need for Florida teachers. Today, Florida has the fourth largest school system in the United States. Its 67 school districts are comprised of more than 4,000 public schools (including charters) that enroll about 3 million students . . ” (Teaching in Florida, 2008, p. 1) There are 67 districts in Florida and each district has a distinct hiring process. Individuals who wish to apply for a teaching position must apply directly to the school district. The current job application must be filed with that district. must be given an interview for a special teaching vacancy.

The salary is based on the teacher’s degrees and years of experience. For a starting teacher, the entry level pay for a teacher varies by district. For example, a person with a bachelor’s degree in the Union district can make $38,757. Any entry level position is based upon the degree that person has
Opportunities for advancement
The need for teachers in Florida is great, but there is also a great need for administrators. Many teachers leave their positions and are promoted to different key administrative positions. Florida needs wise leaders who are up-to-date on issues and can provide possible solutions. Teachers can do this because it leads to opportunities for promotion. Many teachers leave their positions and use their knowledge to become assistant principals or even principals. Generally, these positions require a graduate degree, having years of experience in teacher education and appropriate certification (ie administrative certification).
With this increased responsibility comes a reward such as an increase in pay, an opportunity to hire qualified teachers who have similar, if not better, expertise and can oversee how best to meet the needs of everyone in the school. A teacher can also become an expert (i.e. a math coach) where a person observes classrooms and other teachers, provides instructional plans to help improve the teacher’s methods and as a coach, helps other teachers connect kids better with math. Florida teachers should strive to seek higher education and improve themselves as educators.
