Best Earrings to Wear for All Occasions

What are the best earrings to wear, and which are the absolute ones to avoid? Learn the best earrings for any occasion, including work, play, and everything in between so you can be fashion forward and showcase your ears to the best of your ability all the time.

I will start out by saying don’t ever wear heavy earrings that pull on the earlobes at any time! I don’t care how stunning the earrings are. Wearing heavy earrings pulls the earlobe while you’re wearing them, which takes away from the gorgeous jewels and draws the eye to the gross stretched taffy look of your ear. Also, wearing heavy earrings all the time will eventually permanently stretch your lobe and your earring hole, making your ears floppy on the bottom and your earring hole so stretched out it you could put your finger through it. If your earrings pull on your ears, take them out.

Avoid hoops, unless you’re under say, 25, and don’t wear them so large that they could double as a bangle bracelet. First of all, these large hoops twist and rotate the ear all over, and stick out so far from your face that you look like Minnie Mouse, and they just cheapen your entire look. Hookers wear hoops. I’m not trying to be cruel, but the larger the hoops, the less attractive you look. Now, if you’re wearing funky hoops, like yellow or pink or glitter, then by all means, wear them larger but still not so large as to be able to slide them over your wrist. They just get caught in too many things, like your hair. You look messy in hoops. Demure hoops that are smaller than a quarter look quite nice, however, especially if they are thin. If you are going to wear hoops you should pull your hair back.

The best earrings for work are earrings that don’t dangle. You want them to hang no lower than a half inch under your ear. Longer earrings swing around and detract from your work, and get in the way when you’re trying to go about your business, getting stuck in your hair, your shirt (happened to me once, I was on the phone at work and my longer earrings caught on my shoulder- I had to have a coworker unsnag me), and when you’re distracted at work a longer earring can just get torn right out. Be on the safe side and stick to a shorter earring. You also want to make them more plain and complimentary to your work uniform or work wear. Wearing huge funky flowers is a distraction rather than a fashion statement.

Going out, especially dancing or drinking or partying, stick to earrings that are just simple studs. You don’t want to be making out with someone and have them snag your earring, and if you’re drunk and get into a fight, do you really want someone ripping out your hoops? Keep it simple, but fun. A huge stud is fine, just nothing dangly. For an added twist, wear a purple stud in one ear, a blue one in the other. Looks almost unnoticeable but will catch someone’s eye. Fun!

For weddings or funerals or for church, pearl earrings or a simple clear stud are best. They are respectful and classic, and even a black jewel stud will really class up your look. Don’t be ostentatious and draw attention to yourself with big dangly earrings. Unless it’s your own wedding, keep it simple.

The perfect stand-by for any possible occasion are studs. In any color they compliment your face, your ears, and your entire wardrobe and won’t snag or be a distraction. You can wear silver studs, jewel studs, pearl studs, or tiny flower studs. These styles of earrings are simply the most attractive on any ear in their simplicity. Would you rather make a great statement with your ruby studs, or a weird one with your huge red danglies? It’s up to you, but when it comes to earrings, less is positively more, and you have so many options to choose from in studs to look simply amazing.
