The Food Network is undoubtedly a source of entertainment for the whole family; from Bobby Flay’s grilling to Duff Goldman’s whimsy cake. Whether you are a beginning cook or a seasoned professional, you can find a show on the Food Network that is both appealing and informative. But, the very best in my book, either simply entertain me, or give me the feeling ‘I can do it.’ So, here are my picks for the best Food Network television shows of 2008:
Semi-Homemade at Sandra Lee – Sandra Lee’s viewers may know how to open a can and create a few shortcuts. But, not only that, it shows how to make food tasty and visually appealing with daily changes in the tablescapes. I was particularly inspired by Lee’s semi-homemade cooking style this Thanksgiving when I got a pound cake , a can of pineapple and chameleon white vanilla frosting and a delicious dessert that costs just over $4.00. I simply baked the pineapple with about half a cup of sugar (or to taste) until it was reduced and the pineapple was translucent. I rolled out the dough, then cut the cake in half; creating a double I put a generous amount of pineapple filling on the first layer, then the second layer on top. Cake i on each side, canned frosting, and top with a larger pineapple filling. I must admit, if I had never seen Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee, I would never have thought of doing it. And I still have half of the pineapple and the frosting. I can hardly wait until Christmas.
Cooking for Real and Know That Get On My Plate with Sunny Anderson – I love to watch Sunny. He lives up to his name, with his bubbly, wide-eyed personality. Her show Real Cooking has a down to earth approach to cooking that literally appeals to the new to average cook. Her recipes are simple and easy to try in everyday cooking. And because of that monster – Did you know what you put on my plate?, I now have a new strawberry mum, milk. and chocolate, because the process of searching these and many other products to our table.
Good Eats and Iron Chef America with Alton Brown – Good Eats qualifies as one of the best shows on the Food Network because it is both entertaining and educational. Alton Brown is cheerful when presenting valuable information on how to cook and prepare various dishes. What makes the show so unique is that Brown gives the knowledge behind what makes the food what it is. By understanding why a particular food responds to heat, cold, or whatever cooking process you use, you will get better results in the kitchen. Iron Chef America is one of the best shows because it creates excitement about creating delicious and beautiful dishes. Another American Iron Chef, Bobby Flay, is challenged by Mario Batali, Masaharu Morimoto, Michael Symone or Cat Cora. by a different chef each week to prepare five dishes within an hour, these chefs are placed on the hot seat by a panel of three judges. This show will get you hooked on television because it only happens one time, so you don’t want to miss anything.
