Dinner theaters provide Americans the chance to combine their two most favorite pass times: dinner and a show. Kansas City has a few dinner theaters that are native to the area, which provide great performances from celebrities, a chance to support a local charity, or the opportunity to solve a mystery. The New Theatre Restaurant has been offering Kansas City over 20 years of great entertainment and food. Dennis D. Hennessy and Richard Carrothers, co-owners and Artistic Directors, provide Kansas City with great shows and performances; such as, 1994 production of “Fiddler on the Roof” starring Paul Michael and 2003 production of “On Golden Pond” staring John Knots. These wonderful shows are combined with a five-star buffet, which changes based on the theme of the show.
Tickets range from $46-$51/person, season tickets are available as well. This year performances at New Theatre Restaurant are:

Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene produces a dinner drama that offers wonderful food, a great shows, and performance from actors in Kansas City and members of First Church of the Nazarene’s congregation. The shows range from great comedies, such as 2010’s performance “Butler Did It!”, to wonderful, inspiring dramas, like 2004’s production of “Foxfire.” These performances have talented actors, musicians, and directors, who share their craft well, while providing a wonderful experience every time. Dinner is normally provided by different local Chefs, served via buffet style, which compliment the theme of the show.
The price is right, while supporting a local charitable organization, 2010’s dinner drama was $20/individual, $18/person for group of 8 or more, $18/seniors, and $10/show only. This years performances are scheduled for Oct 19-20 & 25-27, with the show to be determined. Contact the church, or check their website for more information as it becomes available.
The Mystery Train – Murder Mystery Dinner Theater, Kansas City MO, Phone: 816-813-9654
Spend the evening enjoying great food from local restaurants, while trying to determine “who done it!”, was it Ms. Scarlett with the rope or Ms. Peacock with the wrench? Well, you get the picture, every year The Mystery Train pulls into the station at different locations in the Kansas City area, providing great mysteries and dinner for all to enjoy.
Tickets are $64/ticket with performances every Friday and Saturday beginning in February. The 2012 season will have the following performances:
