Lately, it seems every where you look there is Betty White staring back at you. Betty White is on television, in movies, and on billboards! Although working in television and show business for a very long time, she has only recently gained this astounding amount of popularity. Why is Betty White suddenly so popular?
Betty White has been in the Hollywood game since the 1930s. She began her career in modeling and radio, and then transferred on to television. She appeared on many television shows, including a talk show named “The Betty White Show” and a wide variety of game shows, and movies. Betty White established two popular characters throughout her days on television: Sue Ann on the Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls. After the Golden Girls ended, Betty White continued to work in show business, often making guest appearances on many television shows and joining the cast of a soap opera.
Betty White, although never disappearing throughout her long career, has had a recent surge into “pop culture icon” over the past year. Steadily increasing popularity after her role in the successful romantic comedy The Proposal, Betty White’s status really took off after her appearance in a Superbowl Snickers commercial, and a facebook group to have Betty White host Saturday Night Live garnered an incredible amount of support on the networking site (and led to Betty White hosting the popular show to great ratings.)
In the summer of 2010, Betty White premiered yet another television show entitled Hot in Cleveland. Although original reviewers of the show were wary of its success, Betty White’s extreme popularity helped to propel the show in to the surprise hit of the summer. Betty White also has a new movie debuting soon, and many projects, including book deals, lined up in the near future. The demand from audiences for Betty White’s work continues to grow.
Betty White, at 88, is more popular now than she has ever been. She has proven her ability to create laughs on television and in movies.
