I’ve written several articles about the Bible and different topics of the Bible. It’s not enough to know the topics talked about in the Bible though. It’s also important to know the Bible characters, the places and the stories. I decided to do a series of lessons on different things in the Bible starting from the very first of all the Bible characters alphabetically, Aaron.
I know that a lot of people find the lineage of Bible characters boring but at least know that Aaron was the brother of Moses, son of Amram and Jochebed, husband of Elisheba, and father of Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. (Exodus 6:14 – 24)
Moses is one of the most well known Bible characters but Aaron there with his brother during the deliverance of Israel out of Egypt. Even though Moses was one of the most important Bible characters he was actually not a good public speaker and was very nervous, even scared about speaking.
God used Moses on purpose to prove that God would give anybody the words to speak, even somebody that wasn’t a good speaker. However, God realized he wouldn’t go without somebody that was a good speaker so God sent Aaron to help. He was an extremely good speaker and was to be the mouth of Moses. (Exodus 4:14-16,27-31;7:1,2)
Aaron was very faithful to his brother during Israel’s deliverance out of Egypt. Every time that Moses met with Pharaoh his brother was right there with him.
Aaron was with Moses in many other occasions as well. During the battle with Amalek in Rephidam he was there when Moses went to the top of the hill with the staff of God.
Aaron also ascended Mt. Sinai with his brother to receive the Ten Commandments from God. Only Moses was allowed to go to the very top but Aaron and his sons Nadab and Abihu were permitted to go part of the way. (Exodus 19:24;24:1,9,10)
No Bible characters are without his flaws though. While Moses remained on the mountain his brother went back down the mountain and hastily made a golden calf as an object of worship. God rebuked Aaron for his part in the golden calf but Moses prayed and asked God not to destroy him. Later Aaron does the same thing for Miriam. (Exodus 32; Acts 7:40; Deuteronomy 9:20,21)
While Moses was on the mount he learned the proper way to worship and was expected to teach the people. Aaron was ordained to the priest’s office and was made high priest. (Leviticus 9)
Aaron like all Bible characters was not perfect, at one point in time he was even jealous of his brother. But he was one of the most faithful Bible characters and was an integral part in the deliverance of his people and giving them a system of worship.
