Big Cat Rescue Educational Sanctuary in Tampa, Florida

WildLife on Easy Street is now the Big Cat Rescue Sanctuary and is home to more than 200 animals, mostly cats. It was really hard to find so I checked him out on the website www.wildlifeoneasystreet.com. It was located at the end of a dirt road, where there was a huge wire fence and a gate. I jumped out and looked to see how I could get in. The bell rang and a lady came to greet us. He opened the gate and there was a parking lot on the left. From here we walked into the primitive area. Tabernacle, table and chairs. This was where it was read that we had to keep the rules and gave a $20 donation. Every penny of the donation goes to the animals. Staff members are paid by business sponsors. I was told that there were sixteen employees and 35 or more volunteers. I wish I lived closer so I could volunteer.

We at 3:00 p.m. route and arrived 15 minutes early. For 5 minutes to 3 it seemed as if we were alone. Surprisingly in the last few minutes 10 more people came. I asked how long the tour was and was told about 1-1 1/2 hours.

We were asked to stay behind the tour guide but in front of the golf cart. In this way no one could go astray. We came to see about 25 big cats. All in large cages when he escapes. I was a little afraid that they are in small places, so I was reassured.

We come to the wars of the cougars. They are so elegant. I took photos sitting, walking, and just being idle. There are some really cute lynx and bobcats and would you believe that snow leopards can stay in air conditioned units. I am so sad because I just love them.

In Bengal tigers, most of them came from the Ringling Brothers. When the cats are old enough to do this, they take them out for training. They pay for building a cage, for food, and fees. They also send their own vet if necessary. People always tell you bad things about the circus, but I feel good about this. These tigers swim in the lake and we were told they have a 3 acre ‘cat-a-tas’ to run.

The trainer was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. He asked us if we would keep our distance from the lion attack, even the black leopard was very timid. We did that.

At the end of our visit we split into 2 groups and we were able to go to the castle and ask for a cat. We came to play with the bobcat. She was so beautiful and well fed. She had quite a belly on her and also a very thick fur coat. We put our hands together before entering and leaving. She was clawed, but she had big teeth. We said that if they surrounded her before our feet, they would immediately retreat. This head could come down, and I certainly didn’t want to see how sharp his teeth were. Some have said that the property of the land, and the concern for the hate of the concern.

By the time we finished the space was an hour and ten minutes. The rest of the people returned to their vehicles. I asked if we could look at the gift shop. The lady opened it for us and I was able to buy a key ring, pictures and postcards. They could make so much more money if this was part of the price. Disney always makes you go through these shops. He needs a whole school and a career. I saw one terrible wildebeest, a western cougar, sitting and looking at me. Another really proud of all, Bengal tigers. In the cage, he says, “I’m over 15 I’m over 15, id = 90 cat years

I recommend that anyone interested in purchasing a floor plan find this site. On this map you can find the Citron Park Mall, on Citron Park Drive. Immediately opposite is the shopping street. Going south you will cross the street and you will see a dirt road under McDonalds. Here you turn and go to the end of this road. It’s really hard to see, so drive slowly. If you get to Veterans Express, don’t turn here, you will be on the toll road, turn to the next road and come back. I will not be confused.

I just wish it had been longer and I could see more animals. Next time I’ll have to think about the 8-hour photo session, a mere $400, but it’s not fun. The second person enters half price.

In checking their website for a photo I found them now Big Cat Rescue at bigcatrescue.com
