Buried Alive!! “LOST”, 3/28

I do it with dignity! Nikki and Paolo are gone!

She was buried alive, no less.

I wanted to jump and dance around when I realized that he was buried alive! Unfortunately, my husband was sitting next to me rolling his eyes. Being buried alive is not something you would want in someone’s life, but it seems acceptable in the employee’s land.

I’m sure there is a group of fans who didn’t see the point of the two. Definitely bring some career traits to the fore – they did this with Artz, giving Hurley one of the best lines ever: “Dude, something… Artz got on you.” In reality, some actors or actresses could find a career well enough to work and not just sit around eating coconuts. Who? What ever happened to Steve or Scott – which one didn’t get beaten to death by Ethan or the other? Maybe some of these folks are really good – they just haven’t had their big break – this could be it. Bring someone more than someone to blow up or kill – like the red coats in Star Trek.

But back to Nikki and Paul. The introduction of these was taken away, they added nothing to the show, and no one even saw the point. Sawyer had two great lines – one on the Ping Pong table and then on Expose – who the hell are they? That’s what fans were all thinking.

This wasn’t one of the episodes with great answers, like last week’s answer to how Locke ended up in a wheelchair, but it was definitely a nice response from the intense, exploding submarine, other narratives.

It was nice to see Artz again – although we knew he was blowing his top. Same with Shannon and Boone. When she was upset at the airport in the previous flashbacks, I thought she still survived part of that scene. I miss them too. Michael can stay gone, but Shannon and Boone can come back. No Libby or Ana Lucia or Eko or any of the other tailies in the background. I wonder if this means something – since everything else in “Lost” seems to mean something.

The spider thing is somewhat predictable. As soon as Artz started telling Nikki about them, I knew how they were going to be their undoing. The paralyzed part of me took a bit of protection but I knew the monster wasn’t a viable option. My first thought when I realized that she had said “Paolo’s alive” rather than “Paolo’s a lie” as Hurley thought or “paralyzed” as she said. All Nikki remembered about Dr. Artz about the Medusa spider, I wonder that little part of the pheromone that attracts all the male species.

You know, Sawyer is pretty smart – a lot smarter than we think we realize. The “forensic” thing was funny enough, but he figured out the secret – there was dirt under his nails and he had to dig it out. Maybe he’s a CSI fan?

I loved Charlie’s world coming with the Sun. I’m glad she wasn’t going to tell Jin that there was another grave – or two – and yet Desmond warned that Charlie was going to die, that Jin’s death wouldn’t be good for Sawyer and Charlie. Sawyer deserved a slap. I feel for Jin – more than I do for anyone other than Kate. Back in the wild, Sawyer was able to isolate himself from others, not getting too close to anyone. On the island they are different. He and Jin ended up driving the whole raft thing, trekking across the island with Tails [though Sawyer was unconscious for most of it], and I know that Jin was part of the ship’s attempted rescue. And who can forget the VW drunken escape? Something is driving around the big field on deserted island in a knocking VW bug that will join the guys.

Overall, this wasn’t the best episode of the season, and while technically the worst, I still enjoyed it.

6 out of 10 stars.
