CD Review: Hell Yeah

Hellyeah is a heavy metal band consisting of members Mudvayne, Pantera, and Nilface. On April 10, 2007, they released their first full length album through Epic Records.

Hellyeah’s lead singer is Chad Gray of Mudvayne. Greg Tribbet on guitar also from Mudvayne. Tom Maxwell, guitarist, from Nihilface. Jerry Montano, the bassist, is also from Nihilface. Vinnie Paul Abbott, drummer, formerly of Pantera and Damageplan.

April 2007 saw the release of their first album and it was titled Hellyeah. This album was Vinnie Paul Abbott’s first album release since his brother, Darrell “Dimebag” Abbott, was shot and killed on stage at a Damageplane concert in December 2004.

The album policy has a barrier because of the parent’s strong language. There are twelve tracks on the album. The playing time of all twelve songs is forty-three minutes and fifty seconds. The song titles and lengths are:

Hellyeah – 3:30

You don’t know – 4:18

Matter of Time – 3:46

Waging War – 3:05

Alcoholic Donkey – 3:54

Goddamn – 3:20

In Mood (Instrumental) – 0:58

Star – 3:42

Rotten Heart – 3:52

Thank you – 4:31

Nausea – 4:59

Single – 3:50 The self-titled track “Hellyeah” began to appear on old time radio in February 2007. on their official MySpace pages they have “Mother Time” and “You Don’t Know” in addition to “Hellyeah”.

Thank you” is a tribute to some of the band members who recently lost their family members. Vinnie Paul lost a Brother and Chad Gray a grandmother “Alcohaulin Asinus” is the softest song on the album. “War” is a song directed to the press, because “Stella” sounds like a trick to the people “My angel, my anchor, my star.

I was waiting for the album release as soon as I heard about it. The band sounds absolutely awesome and doesn’t disappoint. This album is good from the first track to the last. If you are a fan of Mudvayne, Pantera, or Nihilface then this album is a must. You will be hooked by the gap song. So far my favorite songs off the album are the first four songs plus tracks six, eight, twelve.

Chad Gray and Greg Tribbet are currently working in the studio on Mudvayne’s next album which is currently scheduled to be released in 2007. Mudvayne will be back on tour once they’ve finished their new album.

After the death of his brother, Vinnie Paul Abbott took some time off from music. He formed his own label in February 2006 entitled Big Vin Records.

Tom Maxwell and Jerry Montano is also back in the studio with his fellow band members working on their next album. However, the next album is also scheduled to come out in 2007 and the band should be back on tour.
