Pop star and actress Brandy Norwood will not face criminal charges filed by the California Highway Patrol in a December 30, 2006 car crash, in which one mother of two children was killed. This is because the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office cites “insufficient evidence” to proceed with the criminal charges against Brandy Norwood of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter for the car crash, according to the December 28, 2007 article by MSNBC. Alcohol, drug use, and driver distraction (such as using her cell phone) were ruled out as causes against the celebrity Brandy Norwood in this fatal car crash from last year.
Brandy’s 2007 Land Rover struck the 2005 Toyota of 38 year old Awatef Aboudihaj from behind near the interchange of the 405 and 101 freeways in Los Angeles, California. But what happened after that has been the subject of controversy. Authorities, according to the website TMZ.com (in their “Celebrity Justice” link December 28, 2007), claimed this caused Aboudihaj’s car to be sideswiped by another vehicle. But TMZ.com also cites a source within the California Highway Patrol as stating that “Aboudihaj actually struck the car in front of her and then slammed on her brakes before Brandy made contact. But the December 28, 2007 article from Access Hollywood further states that when Brandy’s car struck Aboudihaj’s car, it caused Aboudihaj’s car to hit another vehicle and then Aboudihaj’s car slid sideways into a center divider and was ultimately hit by another automobile, leading to the automobile fatality.
Celebrity Brandy Norwood (born on February 11, 1979 according to her Wikipedia biography) was 27 years old at the time of the tragic car crash accident, which she was driving alone. She formerly starred in the UPN network situation comedy Moesha. The legal troubles for this celebrity are far from over because of all the civil litigation pending against her. She’s being sued by the parents, the two children, and the husband of the late Aboudihaj in three separate civil lawsuits according to the May 4, 2007 article by Access Hollywood, which stated that the deceased was a waitress before her death.
Despite this, Brandy Norwood’s attorney Blair Berk released a statement to TMZ.com on December 28, 2007 which states that they are “extremely pleased” with the Los Angeles City Attorney for dropping the charges. The statement goes on to claim that the pop star-actress as well has her family have endured hardship over the last year; furthermore, this statement chastises the California Highway Patrol for accusing the pop star actress Brandy Norwood of criminal charges in a press release before the investigation was wrapped up.
