For whatever reason there may come a time when you want to change your computer’s IP address. You might want to avoid spam or get banned from a certain site. Websites track visitors by logging ip addresses. Your your personal computer is your personal identification. There are different ways to change the IP address depending on the type of connection you have. Here’s how to change your email address if you have a cable connection. I believe this works for all cable internet connections, it just doesn’t flatter. The whole process takes about 1 minute to complete.
Release Current IP Address
The first thing you need to do to change your IP address with a wired internet connection is to release your current IP address. To do this, go to “run” in your start menu and type “cmd” then hit “Enter” .This will bring up a black window.Type in “ipconfig” in the flashing cursor and “enter” on your keyboard so you can see what your current IP address is. This will open your current message. Open this window because you need to use it at the end.
Access the “Local Area Connection” window
After solving your IP address you need to go to the “control panel” in the start menu and click on “Network and Internet Connections”. This will bring up another window where you will then need to click on “Network Connections”. Once this is done you will be taken to another window where you will now need to “Local Area Connection”. This is where you will change your IP address.
Change IP Address
You should now be in a window that has a “General” and “Support” tab at the top. Under the “General” tab, click “Properties”. This will bring up another window. In the new window, scroll down to “Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click the “properties” tab below. In the next window select “Use the following IP address” and enter “111.111.111.111” in the email box. With this done, just right click your mouse on the “Subnet” box and it will generate its own numbers. Click the “OK” button at the bottom of the window and then click “Close” in the next window. Your “Local Area Connection Status” window will appear. At this point you want to go back under the “general” tab and click on “properties” again. Select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click the “Properties” tab below as you did before. In the next window, instead of choosing “Use the following IP address”, select “Obtain the same address automatically” and click “OK”. In the next window click “Close” and your new IP address will be set in seconds!
All you have to do now is go back to the black window you started at, type “ipconfig /refresh” and voila! Your new IP address will appear.
