This Children’s Church lesson is about telling others about God. I did this lesson not long ago. It worked out great for the older kids in my class, but the younger kids were too young for it. The focus of the lesson is how you can tell others about God.
I started off by asking the kids if they had ever seen a personalized license plate. A few of the kids knew what I was talking about. So I explained what a personalized license plate was. Then a couple more understood. But the three, four, five year olds were lost. So if you have kids this young I don’t recommend this lesson for your Children’s Church.
I went on to explain the license plates and we discussed different plates that we had seen. I told the kids that people get personalized plates to tell other people messages they want them to know. I held up my different drawings that I had done to show the kids. I drew different pictures of license plates and wrote different messages on each license plate. One plate said GD4GVS.
Then we discussed what messages we could tell others about God. I asked the children what they could tell others about God. Some said that he created us, earth, moon, stars, etc. Then I read the Bible verse Psalm 105:1. This verse says “Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what He has done”.
Then we did our activity. I let the smaller ones color because I quickly realized they weren’t going to be able to do the activity. I took printer paper and crayons with me. I told the kids to draw a license plate and write a message about God on the license plate. The catch was they could only use seven characters. Some of the kids wrote the ones that they saw on my plates and some wrote messages that you couldn’t quite make out but they told me what they were. That was good enough for me. Bless their hearts, at least they tried.
Here are some of the messages that I used on my plates.
GD4GVS – God Forgives
CRE8OR – Creator
GDLVSU – God Loves You
GDSGR8 – God is Great
I’m sure you could come up with many more if you sit and think about it. The thing that makes this hard is you can only use seven characters. My older kids seemed to enjoy this lesson. My younger ones were coloring and making airplanes.
So before your class I recommend you draw and decorate your license plates. Then right your messages on them. You can look through the Bible and find other scriptures to tell what God has done. I was put on very short notice about teaching the next day, so I didn’t have much time to do anything.
