Westlake, Ohio is a family suburb fifteen miles west of Cleveland. Clague Park is the oldest of the five parks in Westlake. It is located at the corner of Clague Road and Hilliard Boulevard on the east side of the city. Its 75 acres encompasses a variety of activities and facilities. Walking paths, picnic areas, playgrounds and swimming pools are just a few of the attractions Clague Park has to offer.
A bit of history
Walter Clague had long seen the park as a matter of his family’s creation. On October 9, 1926, Dover Village received a donation of 78 acres on Clague Road, and Clague Park was born. Mr. Clague began construction of the pond shortly after. Clague Cabin, a small cabin on the property, received a $6,000 addition in 1958. The city’s first swimming pools was built in Clague Park by Westlake Swimming Pool, Inc., a group of citizens promoting the construction of pools. Peterson swimming pools opened the kiddie pool on June 17, 1967. In 1970, the barn above Clague became family property. Clague Playhouse, a community theater and now the home of Clague & Company.
Today’s Park
What do people picture when they think of a local park? A swing set, a said, monkey bars, and perhaps a field. Clague Park has that and much more. It has almost nothing that the average person, family or social group might want. Click here to view the “Clague Park places to play” slideshow.
For sports enthusiasts, the park features seven baseball diamonds, as well as tennis courts and horseshoe courts. A large open area of the baseball diamond outfields could serve as an impromptu field to play for a friendly football game Soccer kids or big but takes. Aquatic types will not be disappointed by Petroson Pool. Open usually from Memorial-day-holiday”>Memorial Day Labor Day has many opportunities for fun. Great large swimming pool, kiddie pool and best of all two deep water swimming lessons! All ages and water aerobics classes are offered. Peterson The pool also boasts a swimming pool itself team. Poolside Birthday is always a hit. And once a year it goes to the dogs, literally. Every dog has his day, and this day is his day at swimming pool. Hours vary by day and month. Rates vary by age, state of residence and time of day.
Clague Park has playground equipment for kids of all ages. There are various swing settings for babies, preschoolers and older babies. The crib, designed for kids 5 and up, is made from recycled materials. As the sign reads, it is made from the equivalent of 20,602 plastic containers, 24,621 cans of aluminum and 11,673 cans of soup! Children between the ages of 2 and 5 have their own two beds, especially for babies; a small train for climbing and sliding, and a larger, more decorative playground. There is a nice playground for adults as well. A collection of calisthenics equipment such as pull-up bars and sit-up benches found near another photo equipment.
For those looking for some relaxation, Clague Park has opportunities for a good time. The powers of the fireworks on the 4th of July show. The rooftop picnic is a great place for birthday parties, birthdays, social gatherings, church or family reunions. The nearby area has many tables mixed between tall trees picnic-table”>picnic so there is always a shady spot to escape the sun. There are several grills scattered around the area perfect for grilling burgers and dogs a href=”https://e-info.vn/tag/kids-fun”>they can go to have fun inside Accommodates 80 people. It has a kitchen and a fireplace so that more elaborate meals can be served. Residents and non-residents can reserve the cabin. It is located in Clague Park.
Across the main street from the baseball diamonds is the large Clague Park duck pond for many ducks and geese, and sometimes koi. The large deck overlooks the lagoon and is a beautiful setting for group photographs. The shady gazebo is just off the parking lot and is a wonderful place to take a break. A paved walking path suitable for walkers and wheelchairs surrounds the pond. A picnic table near the water’s edge gives visitors a chance to get close to tame ducks and geese. Visitors are asked to refrain from feeding the birds. Fishing in the pond is no longer allowed. Also, no swimming, boating or ice skating is allowed. Westlake, Ohio has a real treasure in Clague Park. There are other, more modern parks with opportunities for fun, but Clague holds a special place in the history of Westlake and in the hearts of its residents. The generous donation of land by Walter Clague in 1926 was a great gift to the city. A visit to Westlake is not complete without enjoying a day at Clague Park.
