The word “ritual” in the dictionary means rite. This means that rituals are considered rites of passage. Rituals have been used for thousands of years by every religious and spiritual group, and they are used by many people as part of their family traditions, whether it’s sweet-16 birthday parties, celebrating turning 21 or graduation ceremonies. The act of practicing rituals is a part of our regular lives, even if we do not call it a ritual.
In addition, so many people have had some endings happen in their lives that they’re not happy about at all. Yet, more people are starting to realize they are responsible for the happiness in their lives and can create their own happiness. By the same token, we can also create our own new beginnings. For every ending there is a new beginning that’s going to happen whether people participate in its development or not, but we have the power to create the kind of new beginning we wish to happen in our lives.
Just as we wish for new beginnings as we blow out the candles on our birthday cakes, we can use the following ritual on the night of the New Moon to create a wonderful new beginning for ourselves that’s not only wishful, but fruitful and fulfilling. It can be a clear, beautiful reflection of one’s true desire from the heart.
Why the New Moon? According to many religions and spiritual paths, particularly Native American Spirituality, Shamanism, and Wicca, the New Moon represents new beginnings. Therefore, many people perform rituals during the time a New Moon is in the sky to add extra power to their own power of intention.
The following ritual is merely a suggestion. You can tweak this ritual to fit your own personal needs or just use the ritual as inspiration to create your own ritual from the ground up.
Simple New Moon Ritual
Items You’ll Need:
1 white candle
1 piece of paper
1 pen
On the next New Moon, sit down with a piece of paper and a pen. Think about the new things you would like to attract in your life. Make sure you really take time to think about it. Please be realistic. There’s nothing wrong with thinking big about our lives, but we have to be realistic at the same time.
Now, start to write down your small list of things you’d like to attract into your life. The list might include a new job, new friends, a better attitude towards yourself and others, or a new healthy lifestyle change that fits your personal needs. The sky is the limit with this list, but reality is still key as well.
Once your list is complete set it in front of your white candle. Light the candle and just take a few deep breaths, close your eyes, and think about everything you wrote your list. Visualize everything on your list coming to you with ease and love. See them coming towards you as you hold your arms open and then embrace them closely to you. You are entitled to new beginnings that you’ve created. You are safe. You are secure. You are loved. And you are enjoying a new beginning, a new path, a new and exciting phase in life.
Stay here with this visualization for as long as you feel it’s necessary. Keep the lit candle in a safe place where you can see it and allow it to burn for at least thirty minutes. Be sure you are going to be home to put the candle out. Snuff the candle out after thirty or more minutes. Say a prayer of gratitude to whomever you worship or pray to for guidance. Finally, fold up the list and keep it with you in your wallet or purse as a reminder. From time to time, take out the list and do your visualization for each item until everything comes to fruition. It is done.
