Creative Ways to Display Framed Paintings

The way in which paintings are displayed can make a tremendous difference in how they appear. When simply hung on a wall in a traditional manner, how they look to the onlooker depends upon the composition, the combination of colors and the overall design of each piece. Use creative ways to display framed paintings to make a grand impression. They can look phenomenal.

I am an oil painter, and most of my work is traditionally displayed. Sometimes I create a focal point comprised of a large painting surrounded by metal wall sculptures or smaller works of framed art. My most eye catching methods of display include mirrors, easels and creative amalgamations. I have used these display methods for clients and when decorating my home with painted works of framed art.

Mount a Series of Paintings on a Large Mirror

One of my most stunning methods of display included a large wall mirror. The paintings were floral, and they were framed with exotic bloodwood from South America. The vibrant color of the wood beautifully accented the blooming works of art. They were further embellished when mounted on a large wall mirror that was also framed by bloodwood. I used art mounting adhesive to apply the paintings to the mirror, and I carefully measured each one to make sure they were evenly spaced. The series of framed paintings on the framed mirror embellished a client’s grand foyer. The single piece looked stunning, and my client agreed that it was a very creative way to display her works of hand painted art.

Create a Corner Display

When decorating a contemporary home I came up with a very creative way to display a collection of framed paintings. They were all related by theme, and I wanted to use a creative way to display them on a sharp corner. I mounted four rows of dozens of framed paintings of ocean waves. The corner was in view from another room, and almost all of the paintings were visible. The blue waves and designs looked amazing against the stark white walls, and it was their unique angle and placement that made them look extraordinary.

Display Framed Paintings on Easels

Framed paintings do not have to be displayed on walls. On the contrary, some of the most creative methods of display include easels. I was asked to design and decorate an art gallery for a client, and the framed paintings on the walls only made up a small percentage of the beautiful works of art that he had on display. I added an array of easels to the decorating scheme. They gave the room dimension and unique appeal, and they looked fantastic in between the pedestals that held fine sculptures and works of tabletop art.

Think beyond the walls when looking for creative ways to display framed photos. Some of the most eye catching displays are not against walls. Height and distance are the only requirements when displaying fine works of painted art. They are to be viewed from an appropriate distance instead of up close, and they should be displayed at average eye level.
