Culture Shock – 2nd Day in Brazil

Alright, I’ve had enough Portuguese for today. What I would give for one person to be here who speaks perfect English. I miss talking. Whenever I say something in English, it’s just a word or two in the hopes that someone will be able to understand.

I’ve been watching the Olypics in Portuguese for the past hour. Unfortunately nothing is happening other than introducing the countries. One of my host sister’s friends came over and they’re happily talking in Portuguese.

I wish there was a huge, empty field somewhere close by where I could go to scream. Or just talk to myself.

We went shopping today and, oh my gosh, Brazilian men are much more forward than Americans. In my two hours of shopping there were more cat calls, long looks, and beeping horns than in my entire life. My host sister, Christina, told me not to look at any of them, so it was strange. I feel like getting a huge bag to wear out for my next trip.

That night/morning 1:31 a.m.

Okay! Totally changed my mind about Brazil! I LOVE IT HERE! I just got back from possibly the best party ever! I’m allowed to drink, I have no curfew and many Brazilian teenagers speak English!

Caipirinha is very good!

SKOLS beer is very good!

Vodka is very good!

Boys who think I’m pretty are very good!

Being happy in a very foreign country est muito bem! Obrigada! Boa Noite!
