How can there be different financial plans when they both have the same goal in mind: financial freedom? At first glance, these two designs seem very similar, but how similar are they? I have been known for both design and practice. I will compare the similarities and differences so that you too can decide which strategy will work for you.
Let’s face it, most of us are not where we want to be financially, and the thought of being debt free and ahead of the game can seem impossible. Both “Baby Steps” and “The Money Map” are divided into several, but very achievable goals. When you break down your plan into several smaller goals and outline the tools you need to achieve these goals, the entire process of obtaining resources becomes much easier.
The Crown Financial Services “Money Map” is actually a great booklet that you can buy on their website. On the one hand there is some small introduction and also a few boxes to complete you asking what your life purpose and goals are. It also has a box of basic principles based on some Holy Scripture. On your journey to financial peace, “The Money Map” helps you keep your focus on God. In this same section there is also a list of different books, workbooks, and other tools that you can buy on the same site of the crown, to help you with each destination in the design.
When you scroll down the page, you’ll see a picture of a mountain containing a box with each destination on it. The bottom box is the first destination, or goal, and the top is the last destination. In each destination box is a check list that must be completed before proceeding to the next step. There cannot be more than one destination in each destination. Most time savings are encouraged to build your savings in some area as long as you complete the goal. There are spaces in each box that you can fill in with how you rate yourself when you complete each step and a space to write the time you completed the goal. There is also a small writing memory in each box to help your God focus on each goal. The “Money Map” also encourages you to visit their website while on your journey, so you can share your progress with others on their journey and get some tips to help you achieve your goals.

Although most of the resources for gaining control can be found in Ramsey’s book, he does plug his website and encourages you to visit it while completing the “Baby Steps.” His website also has “Baby Steps” on it, but he also promotes his other products, all of which have the same goal of getting your things done. While there you will find a forum with people completing “Baby Steps” just like you, a multitude of activities, and many tools such as the forms and papers you will find in the back of the book. You can view parts of a site, but to consider its size, you must pay a membership fee.
As you can see, both “Baby Steps” and “Money Map” both have the same goal in mind, but they both go about it in different ways. “Baby Steps” is more structured and gives you unique advice and tools on how to achieve your goals as quickly as possible. In the “Money Map”, you seem to have more than you want to go around. If you need more structure and want to see results quickly, I would opt for “Baby Steps”. I enjoyed the fact that the “Money Map” was more of a God site, although Dave Ramsey also mentions a bit of God. Also, you have a safety net of greater savings than with “Gloria. In other words, financial peace with the aim of a very having a commendable one, no matter which way you plan to go about it.
