Decorating Canning Jars for Gifts

Canning jars offer many opportunities for decorating and gift giving. They are the perfect package for everything from tableware to mixed candles. I’ve been decorating and collecting holiday gifts baskets, and the results have been spectacular. I did not use paint or glass pieces to decorate the canning jars. I am decorating the glass with scrapbook paper, paper and braid. Use my ideas and come up with some of your own after the scraps of your local scrapbooking gallery craft store. The options are only limited by your imagination and the gift giving opportunity.

Necessary supplement

When canning jars for decorating gifts, you’ll need scrapbooking paper in your choice of colors and designs. We also need a fabric that coordinates with paper cutouts scrapbooking paper, Dimensional notebooks, twist paper, scissors, glue dots, double then braid the foam tape and ribbon or jute. Consult my photo for ideas. Tags can be tied to the tops of the jars to display the gifts.

Glue dots are ideal for jar canning crafts. They are printed on transparent plastic sheets, and protective sheets cover the other side. They make it easy to attach paper cutouts and fabric when decorating jars for gifts. They don’t have to dry out, and they work great for decorations in place.

On the way to proceed

It is a lot of fun to decorate jars for gifts, especially when preparing them with candy, homemade cookies or small things suitable for the occasion. Lay out all the booklets and cutout paper before starting, and have a plan in mind.

Cut sheets of scrapbooking paper to fit the boxes. They should be about four inches wide. Cut pieces of fabric about three inches wide. After wrapping the jars with paper and attaching them with glue dots, cover the woven paper wrapper. The device can also be attached with glue points. I added the bag over the scrapbook paper and held it in place with glue dots. Consult the photo for a visual guide.

Next, wrap the jars with the paper cutouts and decorations of your choice. Attach the first layer of paper to the cutouts with glue dots. Use square double-sided foam tape to attach the second layer of paper cutouts. The foam squares will add dimension. Scrapbooking stickers will have a peel backing, and no other adhesive is required.

Finish decorating canning jars with paper twist bows and narrow satin ribbon or natural jute braid. Wrap wrapping paper, ribbon or paper around the lips of the canning jars. Cut out circles of fabric or printed scrapbooking paper to cover the covers. Attach gift tags using jute braid or ribbon. I used a thin wooden backing with my tag, but cardstock works just as well when decorating jars and finishing canning that will hold small gifts for any occasion.
