Discover the Regions of Spain – the Festivals of Andalucia

Andalucia is one of the most popular holidays in Spain, thanks to its wonderful beaches, warm climate and relaxed atmosphere. The region is home to many ancient cities, including Hispaniola, Gades and Granada. Although the country was established a thousand years ago, there are plenty of new attractions to keep you busy.

There are many annual festivals or holidays that are celebrated throughout this country. These festivals are a great way to get a true sample of Andalucia’s culture, from the regional cuisine to the spirit of its people.

Fiesta de Los Reyes – Festival of the Three Kings. In all the major cities in Andalucia, this festival is celebrated on the evening of January 5. It is intended to commemorate the three kings of the East who gave their gifts to the Christ Child. The next day, the Ninth of January, is a national holiday throughout Spain, which will give you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the events taking place around you.

Cardiz Carnival – In the ancient city of Cardiz, this festival begins every year on Shrove Tuesday, or the Tuesday before Lent. A huge parade takes place in Carens and the whole city is engaged in battle. If the festival is playing in New Orleans, you haven’t seen anything until you’ve visited Cardiz.

Isidore Spring Fair – This festival is celebrated two weeks after Easter. The entire Real de la Feria beach is occupied by huge tents and booths where you will find incredible deals, great food and entertainment. The festivities begin at midnight and continue throughout the week. As with the Cardiz Carnival, Easter times change every year, so plan your trip accordingly.

San Lucar Manzanilla (Wine) Fair – In San Lucar de Barrameda in the third week of May you will find the San Lucar Manzanilla festival, which is entirely dedicated to amusement park is set up full of rides and more singing and partying.

Battle of the Fairs – These fairs usually coincide with the summer fairs mentioned above in each city. In Ronda, they hold the biggest boss, where all the fighters dressed in the clothes found in Goya’s eighteenth-century sculptures.

Music Festival – For a full circle of festivities and fun, you should visit Musica Verdiales. The festival is held annually on the 28th of December in the Puerta de la Torre which is near Almogia. Local musicians are dressed in traditional fashion and wine abounds.
