OK for Christmas, I wanted to buy the Little Mermaid kitchen for my girls, we had just redecorated their playroom for them and the kitchen matched the theme. So of course being the Holiday season it was completely sold out, so after 4 weeks of searching EVERYWHERE. I begged an employee at Toys-R-Us to hold one for me, and they actually did!
So after getting over my excitement( I am like a kid at Christmas, when it comes to giving) and traveling 100 miles to and from, I bring in the much anticipated Kitchen. Now I had taken my girls to my mothers, knowing I’m in for an evening of of putting the kitchen together, I know from previous experience that toys like these take time.
So I open the box, and the small plastic packages, and then I separate my pieces labeled from A-F, and started reading the instructions. Seems easy enough and the Package with the pots and pans are a great added bonus. I had a hard time from the beginning of trying to assemble this product, now granted I’m not a mechanic( it helps in assembling children’s toys) but I have put my share of kitchens, bikes and doll houses together. So I am not completely illiterate when it comes to following directions. The pieces just did not fit well together, 3 hours later I had finally maneuvered the thing to finally resemble a child’s kitchen. Then it was time for the stickers, they were actually pretty and when placed on the kitchen it was very nice.
So I went to move the kitchen, I wanted it under the Christmas tree. Christmas morning was the next day. I gently start sliding the kitchen, and the whole thing starts to collapse, first the sides and then the top starts toppling, The top of the kitchen with the burners, sink and little cookbook is one whole piece that fits over the bottom half, which has the refrigerator, oven and shelves. But the problem is the bottom half of the kitchen is in lot of pieces and when you finally maneuver that together, and put the top of the kitchen on the lower half , it does not “snap”. It just sits on the top and if you move the kitchen in the wrong way it falls apart.
But other than the fact that this highly expensive kitchen, does not fit well together, and falls apart whenever you move it. It does have some pretty cool features, the pots and pans when placed on the burners make cool sounds, like boiling water and a tea kettle whistling, and when you turn the facet over the sink it sounds like running water, The oven dings and when you turn the plastic pages on the cookbook Ariel speaks a couple phrases. The colors are pretty too.
I just feel like for the money it was not worth it, three years ago I bought a kitchen at walmart for half the price, and it was pretty, had sounds, was durable and you could toss the thing across the room and it would not break. So on the “Little Mermaid Kitchen” unless you plan on leaving it in only one place, then Don’t waste your money.
