Does God Exist?

Ah, but is there a better way to inflame the passions than to ask that age-old saying: Is there a God? Blessed are those who have never doubted the existence of God. Alas, the agnostic does what he does. S/He will be caught in the midst of wild debates between believers and atheists who are firm in their belief that there is no god. Be it politicians, great men, or the man in the street, where there are men, there is God. We all have an answer to the question: “Is there a God?”, and we are ready to defend our position.

My mother loved poetry and one of her favorite poems was “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer. Like Mom, he worshiped God’s creatures, he adored the beauty of trees. He laments in the last line of his poem: “Poems like fools become to me, but only God can make a tree.” Unlike Mom, I never cared much for poetry, but I love nature. I am interested in Joyce Kilmer’s poem since Codwise Avenue in my hometown was named to honor the man. Every time I tried to memorize it, except for the last line, I always had to look it up. Thus, I keep it in my quote collection book right next to a poem by E. Y. Harburg, from his book: “Who put the Iris in The Wizard of Oz”. It is answered to “Trees”, so it appropriately begins this list of sentences about God.
