Don’t Forget the Ovaltine! Why You Should be Drinking this Tasty Treat

Ovaltine is a flour-flavored substance that can be added to milk to make a healthy drink. He has been around for a very long time
but lost popularity over the years.

A brief history of Ovaltine:

In 1904 a Swiss chemist named Dr. Wander asked nutritional value of barley malt. He was able to extract malt syrup using an inexpensive process, and found that the formula contained great health potential. Later, the son added sugar, whey and other ingredients and developed a product that he first called Ovomaltine. Mothersexpectant mothers, babies, athletes, and undernourished were originally marketed.

After its success in Switzerland, the drink was introduced to Britain where it became known as Ovaltine and became very popular. The nutritional drink was healthy and wholesome and was also supplied to British troops in both world wars.

Uses for Ovaltine – Traditional and Creative:

Ovaltine comes in several flavors, including Chocolate Malt (my favorite), Classic Malt, and Rich Chocolate.

When chocolate cravings or just need an afternoon, I stir Chocolate Malt Ovaltine in a glass of cold milk. . It is only 170 calories per serving with milk mixed with skim and is healthier than a bar or potato chips. Ovaltine has 0 grams of fat and only 15 grams of sugar. Compare Ovaltine with regular flavored milk chocolate, which contains an average of 226 calories, 8.6 grams of fat, and 8 grams of sugar per serving. Oz!

Ovaltine is the perfect quick snack for those times when you’re in a hurry and need a quick but healthy pick-me-up. – up

Ovaltine is even more versatile than you might think. I used it in cereal, in yogurt (well with vanilla yogurt), and as I added it to beer. or shake the ice cream. With a bit of creativity I believe that ovaltine can be used as a ingredient in other foods as well.

Rich Ovaltine chocolate is a great substitute for chocolate milk. It’s a lot less stuffy and has more kids. Just pass it off as chocolate milk and your kids may never know the difference. If you say no, it’s good for you, because in “kid talk” this usually translates to “yucky”.

Some people complain about vitamin aftertase. I won’t deny that Ovaltine tastes like vitamins—yet something about that taste is overpowering. Of course I can give back to drinking because it’s good for me by golly (or at least it’s not bad for me like weird soda is delicious to me).
