Have you ever wanted to talk to your computer and have it understand you? Well not actually possible but with Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 you can talk to the computer and it will translate what you say into text. Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 is the best speech to text recognition software on the market; well at least that’s what their website says. I had the program to test for sure it is as good as they claim.
The installation was quite simple, straightforward and fast. After the installation of the program that states that no voice training or script reading is required Dragon, Naturally Speaking 9, it first tells you that without training the voice would not function properly. So it is necessary to change its position to say that it is not required but suggested. After about 15 minutes of voice training I was then prompted with a request to scan all my Microsoft-word programs. documents This program is meant to help you learn how to speak and dictate, but since many of my documents are full of fluff and often full of errors, I’ve decided to skip this process.
Finally after 30 minutes I was able to speak the first sentence with the computer and I was shocked at how well I answered 9 Dragon Speaking Naturally. He was quick and efficient, getting every word right and missing nothing. I have to admit that I spoke mechanically when I was naturally speaking for purpose, which made it a little more difficult to get the words right.
When I speak in my natural tone, speed, and style, the program gets a little confused, and it can get a few words wrong. Almost any change to your word can throw the program off, and the biggest problem is that the software has very complex algorithms to guess which word is most likely to be used, and this can cause problems. A simple example is that the program guesses the best word, you say “I went to the grocery store and the word program they did not understand the supply. Once Dragon Speaks Naturally 9 mistakes are often cause by master effect and more errors follow. The good news is that the more you use the program and the more corrections you make as the program improves, it learns how to use it and can avoid similar errors later on.
I was happy to see in this version that they have added punctuation, which allows for punctuation without saying “period” or “comma”. Other key features are nothing more than a speech tool that draws out all the “Ums” and “Ahs”. This is a handy tool to have so you don’t have to edit much after your dictation.
Other handy tools that are really cool are the ability to control the mouse by voice, you can simply tell the mouse where you want it to be on the screen by saying “mouse upper left” and it will do what you said. I also like that they added voice text review, which allows you to select an incorrect word and fix it without ever having to touch the keyboard.
All these tools are really awesome, but I have to tell you you time to learn to use Dragon Naturally. You should learn to use these 9 by speaking. Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 isn’t perfect when you first use it; you need to talk a lot so that the child learns.
Dragon Speaking Naturally 9 impressed me how well it can learn as it is used more and more. I have been using the program for a little over a month and the accuracy has increased by 75% since I first used the program. The more you use Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 the better it will do for you.
There are several versions of Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 to choose from, including Standard ($99), Professional ($899), Medical ($1,199) and Legal ($1,199).
