This sounds familiar to you. You take a bucket of water from the dehumidifier to the drain and keep it down, or maybe put it down in the corner of the laundry. Or even worse, you screw up and go to sinks”>kitchen sinks. Only to make twice as much that day.
And that happens when it rains for a few days and the ground outside is saturated with water. The mood is high both inside and outside. More water in the air also means more water in your foundation.
Most of the bases have some kind of dehumidifier, but most have a small tank in them that drains every so often. A dehumidifier works like an air conditioner in that it uses liquid through small tubes to cool the air.
Part of the advantage of this process is that the cooled air causes the water in it to form in the cooler parts, in this case the small unit pipes in the form of condensation. The water goes down into a small tank and you have to drain the tank before it ends up on the floor.
Now to get to that part you have to spend only two hours, so you don’t have to do what you want to do, and no more hassles with water transport.
First you need to decide what you want to do. I will discuss two solutions to this problem, you can do both, but one is more expensive than the other.
You have to decide if you want to stay a little, say twenty dollars or if you want to go the whole hog and get the pump. The pump would be a collection tank. It sits inside the tank and pumps water through the hose and wherever they want.
It’s just a cheap way to hose it down and put the dehumidifier up off the floor on a shelf or counter. Then sink the hose into the floor drain, or other house drains.
I found a pump that cost about sixty dollars from Little Giant. This pump sits inside the tank and drains the water through a pipe. The pump has an automatic on off switch, whenever the water in the tank gets so high it starts pumping. When it is low, and stops before it is empty, so the pump does not run without water running through it. This comfort is especially important because the parts will burn if they do not have water through which they pass.

If you go with a pump, or if you want a dehumidifier that drains by gravity, you will need to decide where you want the water to go. And where do you put your dehumidifier? You can keep your dehumidifier in the same place if you want. You just need to decide where the boot will go.
As you can see in the picture I have on the shelf I made in my room. The room is a room at the top of the basement, actually an old coal room. It gets quite humid here. That’s how it’s going to be.
I added a hose to the outlet of the tank and poured it to my furnace drain. The furnaces have a water drain, because in the modern part the furnaces are made in ways. My house did not have a drain pipe, to which I added one. There used to be only a clear plastic hose that ran from the furnace to the drain. Now there is a white plastic tube that does not move around and pulls out of the recess. It’s just a piece of inch pvc pipe with two stands.
It costs about ten dollars to run the pipe from the furnace to the drain itself. Here you can look at a good site to see how to work with pvc pipe and glues and how to use them.

It might take some trial and error, but the material is quite reasonable in price. They fit about a fifty cent dollar coin and a ten foot inch pvc coin is about two dollars.
If you use pvc the biggest thing to worry about is how quickly the glue kills. Once you apply the glue to the joint and push the pieces together, that’s about all the time you have. By the time you do it, push it together and see if it’s stuck in a piece. It also works by melting the pipe so that it can glue them. The tarn dries quickly because the parts of the glue start to disappear quickly and the parts dry out.
I don’t use my first parts, but some plumbers say you should, but you still have to make sure all your parts fit first. And when you’re sure how everything fits and will fit, then you can start gluing.
Pvc when I ran to the furnace, where a little of hose from the side down to the floor about one foot, then here elbow Set 90 degrees. Then from about six feet to the elbow level 45 to the head that drain in the middle of the room. Then drain another drachm about six feet.
I used concrete anchors to hold the thing in place, hardware stores sell small plastic clips for this. You can buy plastic anchors that you use with a regular screw and attach a bit of structural clamp to the floor.
All this sounds like a lot but you will see that it is quite easy to understand. The first thing you need to do is decide where the dehumidifier will go and how you want the water to get out of it. If you want to use a lower gravity cost, you need to get the dehumidifier off the floor and up at least two feet.
I used a pair of fours for the base. You can use any type of shelf as long as it is strong enough to support the weight of the dehumidifier. If you have concrete walls, you can use anchors.
There are small plastic ones that you drill a hole into the concrete and then hammer the plastic part into the hole. The screw goes into the plastic and tightens it up into a hole and pokes whatever you’re into the wall.
You need to use a special drill with plastic inserts called structural bits. The size is determined by the size of the plastic anchor. It will tell you the size on the package.
Once you’ve determined where the dehumidifier will go and you’ll have a shelf or just have the hoses in place where you want them to be.
It can be handy if you have a calculator and click on your foundation to put the unit there. Use a dehumidifier to dry the pumps.
Most dehumidifiers have a small hole about an inch or less in the bottom of the script, so that a hose can be attached. Or to attach a fitting enclosure. Use this to draw with the tank. I cut the hole using my drill. I used a large bit and then carefully cut the hole with an Exact knife, taking care not to cut myself in the process.
Then I was attached to a tank that was about a finger’s inner diameter clear and attached to the hose. You can ask at hardware store or home improvement for the help you will need for hardware such as fittings and hoses.
I put the hose from the tank into a pvc T pipe to drain my furnace. You can have a sink or floor hose to drain the area. You’ll want to use plastic ties to hold the hose in place so it doesn’t get around and can drain or sink.
You can drain the plastic hose into the house’s existing drain pipe. However, they must be lower than the tank dehumidifier to drain properly. You’ll have to decide how you want to use the drainage, but this can be difficult and run into proper drainage problems.
If you are using an existing system as a drain, install one for an air conditioner or a furnace that is already installed. in your home, you must measure and test the fit of the pvc cement shells.
If you use a pump dehumidifier, it can be almost anywhere. In a corner or out of the way under the stairs. You just need to make the proper air flow for the thing to work. The air needs to pass through the cooling pipes in the unit to condense the air in them.
Use the directions that come with the pump to attach the hoses and power cord. The important thing before you buy a pump is to make sure it fits inside your tank dehumidifier. Measure the pool and use these measurements to check the pump size. You can use plastic ties for the hose in whatever way you use to draw water.
Some suggest using concrete anchors. You need to use a drill and a structure bit of the correct size, see the package size when you buy.
Drill into a solid wall, not a seam or mud seam. About an inch from some joints if you’re on a log wall. Drill about half an inch longer than the anchor with the bit, and go straight and level when drilling.
After the hole is cut, the anchor is driven in and hammered to sit in the wall, then using whatever clamps or brackets and screws attach it to the floor or wall.
You need to be sure when plugging in both your dehumidifier and pump that you don’t use small or cheap extension cords if needed. A dehumidifier that uses a lot of power on its own will need to use a heavy-duty extension cord if you need one.
Fill the tank with water to setup and test that it drains properly. This sounds ridiculous, I know. But you want to make sure before you leave it alone for any length of time. It would be frustrating to leave it and later find out that there is a small leak from somewhere and your floor is full of water.
If it drops, tighten the clamps. Or if it fits, it’s glued, apply more pvc glue, and snap the applicator around where the crack is.
